https://www.abc4.com/news/religion/lds-church-to-enter-non-binding-mediation-with-texas-town-over-temple/

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the town of Fairview, Texas are set to enter non-binding mediation over an announced temple early next week.

Roughly 25 miles outside of Dallas, leaders in Fairview unanimously denied the construction of the temple back in August, saying the 174-foot tall temple would be “totally out of place” in the area."

“There is a great deal of evidence that the Church has modified temple designs around the world to consider local preferences. Recently in Tooele, Utah, the Church changed plans for a temple and residential development after community objections. The proposed site for the Tooele temple was moved a few miles [south] of the original site and the temple name changed to the Deseret Peak Temple,” the letter states."

"In the letter to Fairview residents, leaders said that the plans can be modified based on the evidence on the two temples in Utah.

“There is absolutely no reason why the Church cannot respect our community’s resolve to maintain the character of our Town. The willingness to participate in good faith mediation does not change our position or commitment,” the letter said."

It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

Wait, the church investigated itself and found evidence?

Good for the Fairview community for doing their homework. The Paris temple would be another example, I believe.

News out today that a scaled back and steeple lowering plan has been agreed to and that new plans will be submitted to the planning commission. Not a done deal, but closer that before.

I have an idea..hey mormon church, ditch the whole temple idea in that town. They really don't want your monstrosity building.

"The original temple plans called for a 43,000-square-foot temple and a 174-foot tall spire that local leaders said would be “totally out of place” in the area.

Penrod says the church adjusted its plans during mediation and agreed to a smaller temple and a reduced spire height compared to the original dimensions.

“This proposal includes a smaller single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet and a steeple height of 120 feet,” Penrod said in a statement to ABC4.com."

It still has to go past the City Planning Commission. Unless
there's a few bought off, I hope they deny it. NOBODY in town wants this in their backyard. Put it in the areas that it's zoned for. "Meet the Mormons"? Yeah, they have, and they think that mormons are assholes.

Waste of time, I’m betting

Pretty soon if not yet, ChurchCo will propose sky-high plans but - if pressured - has a fall-back plan ready, PR ‘victory’ for ChurchCo! WoWho for ChurchCo, they Caved In!!!

Do any other religious org (or Any)have ‘spires’ as part of their buildings?

Maybe they can rent space inside their steeples for Cell or other antennas!

Yup, I’m on a path supporting ChurchCo!

The other question is: will anyone attend this temple?
