Please, no lame or minor-league mistakes, those are for amateurs!

Has anyone dropped the turkey on the floor while removing it from the oven? ('3 second rule' doesn't apply today...)

mine so far: I'm used to cooking Jello for mixing with Ice Cream; I was making a Banana Cream pie mix but didn't read the instructions, it was 'instant'...

Can anyone guess what happened next?

hint: it's still cooling in the fridge...

Not a one. Smoked it for the first time ever. Took 1/2 hour longer to hit target temperature. Skin was a bit dry and crunchy for my taste, but others like it. Victory!

One year we had clam chowder for starters. Somebody put the tureen back in the china cabinet without checking to see if it was empty. It wasn't. We found it when we got dishes out for our Christmas dinner.

One time at work a co-worker set up a turkey deep fryer out in the parking lot. He lowered a turkey into it and later pulled out a chicken. Outstanding shrinkage.

We invited my widowed father-in-law's girlfriend to dinner at a restaurant. The HUGE tip and the promise to never bring her back written on the back of the check probably wasn't enough.

One year I got the turkey in the oven and the oven died. It wasn't the best timing for an oven to break.

I'm still trying to get my family to try Tofurky, but no luck. Turkeys are too delicious, the poor things.

I used a good roasting pan in the smoker, and grease and smoke are cooked on hard. Yuck. Should have used a one-time aluminum pan. I'll tackle it over time, put in 15-30 minute stings of hard scrubbing with steel wool. Or maybe I'll just chuck it.

Dagny: Don't we have enough isoflavones in our national diet already? OTOH, I wonder how much soy was fed the turkey I smoked.

Try baking soda and hydrogen peroxide - Google it for details. It really works. I used it on my mother's old CorningWare roaster with many years baked onto it and it looks almost new.

When we were newly married, we were invited for Thanksgiving to a friends' house.

They didn't realize that the turkey needs to be thawed out the night before. It was frozen solid, there was no time to try to thaw it, so I put in their oven at 450 degrees for a few hours.

It really steamed up all the windows, but it actually turned out to be one of the most tender, delicious turkeys ever!

My best Thanksgiving day boner was when my step sister bent over and got stuck in the dryer.

Was at a member's home for t-day as missionary. Instead of allowing the host to serve the food, an annoying elder trying to be too helpful decided to remove the cooked bird from the oven. Only to drop the pan on the floor. Made a mess, but luckily the turkey rode out the drop in the pan. After dinner, the klutz was left outside the missionary car as we drove away. He was running along the side pleading "C'mon guys. Let me get into the car" Pretty funny!

Mmmmmm... homemade toffee. It's on DamnDelicious.net

It looks spectacular, and rather easy. I would have used a sugar subtitute, since my sugar needs to stay low, being the diabetic I am.

Actually, it probably be better, but extra sweet. Stuff like this, sometimes come in 1:1 or 2:1 measurements.

But that would have been good, had I had the ingredients.

Here's the link!

You might reconsider the advantages of vegetarianism. Turns out that a typical vegetarian/vegan diet consumes more processed foods than the western ominvores'.

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2024-11-vegetarians-consume-ultra-food-regularly.html

But here's the kicker: The idealized vegetarian diet is often supplemented ("corrupted?") by processed snack foods:

"Vegetarianism is often equated to eating a lot of fruits, nuts, and vegetables. In practice, that might be the case, but often it also includes the consumption of ultra-processed foods such as breakfast cereals, candy bars, noodles, fake meats, and pizza.

Such foods have been found to contain a host of added, sometimes unhealthy, compounds and chemicals to enhance taste, improve texture, help with freshness, or simply make them look more appetizing. Meat, on the other hand, tends to undergo less processing because it looks and tastes good in its natural state."

As long as the turkeys are raised humanely.

I find that more sad and disrespectful than funny for the turkey that was slaughtered.

As I get older, cruelty is becoming more noticeable to me. I wouldn't want to see a human body treated like that. My perspective and sense of humor aren't what they used to be.

Shrug.

Eat what you want, caffiend.

Next you're going to tell me that vaccines are bad because some people die of vaccines. (OK, I'll stay on topic.)

I'm not going to bother cherry picking articles to show that cardiovascular disease (my biggest genetic risk) is a bigger factor to consider.

Most of the industrial food industries and processors are not exactly improving the the quality of food, IMO.

My main issue is animal welfare and the horrid rise of factory farming with too little regulation. If you think most turkeys are raised humanely, learn up.

I'm not even touching on the environmental issues of maintaining meat diets. I can't say I am a full time vegetarian like I would like to be. However, I try not to ignore animal suffering.

I hope lab grown meat becomes a viable option someday.

My brother tried to make mac n cheese.

He made the sauce and poured it over uncook macaroni.
