The 100th monkey effect is nothing changes until one group imports a new idea and that creates massive change in other groups. The LDS church goes to extreme measures to crush anyone who might cause a 100th monkey event in the church. The church will throw anyone under the bus to protect its image.

They could care less about anti-Mormons who have no influence on the members but if they think someone is influencing the members to question the integrity of the church, they will pull out all the stops to discredit that person in the member’s eyes.
Excommunication is a popular method. Lawsuits is another.

The real sin in the church is being honest and calling out the lies of the leaders and organization. Start doing that and the church will come after you with a vengeance. They want to stomp out the fire before it spreads.

Even though the church is a business that depends on free labor, it still needs HR to deal with problematic employees.

100 Ratt or 100 monkey. The point I’m making is the church puts an enormous effort in squashing anything that may create an avalanche of exits out of the church. They spy. They gather evidence. They run operations. Crazy crap that was exposed by a church worker who worked inside some of these departments. It’s Scientology level stuff.

I remember thinking when I first went through the temple I was seeing the real church. It was very demanding and controlling. That building with the basketball court was a facade. My gut feeling was I was being manipulated and the temple was a major control mechanism in the game.

The church’s biggest fear is something breaks all the conditioning they put the members through. That the horses go back to being free instead of being broken.

But you have free agency, as long as you do as they say.

How many times have we read stories here about someone telling their bishop (or similar leader) that they don't accept some group of tenets of Mormonism, only to be told they can believe or not believe whatever they wanted, but if they tell family members or other ward members about their doubts/apostacy, the bishop would have to hold a court about their membership?

Insiders not believing are much more of a threat than outsiders. They can always say the outsiders don't really understand "The Gospel"™. They cannot dismiss insiders so easily.

Lying for the Lord is way of life.

It's what Jesus wants. Otherwise he would say so, wouldn't he?
