How come "Lamanites" have dark skin?

I know the BofM says Lamanites were cursed with a dark skin so they would "not be enticing to white & delightsome" types.

Jesus came - and all of them were turned white.

Later Nephites became more evil - not mention they turned dark.

Nephites destroyed - but NO mention anywhere the Lamanites were ever turned dark again.

Why are they dark now?

(also, Hagoth was white - how come Polynesians are "Lamanites"?)

Why did the Lamanites hunt down every last Nephite? You would think that after recovering their stolen gym equipment, the Lamanites would spend all of their time working out.

The explanation someone told me was that they stopped wearing modest clothes so ended up sunburned.
