Why is the church so focused on the temple it seems a lot of war activities is temple A lot of tasks are about going to the temple. And encourage everybody to go to the temple. Before it wasn’t like that.

Follow the money. You need to be a full tithe payer to get a temple recommend so you can go to the temple. So it's essentially a country club business model. You have to be current on your dues to enter the clubhouse.

Without that, members would pay on the value they are getting from their local ward, which isn't much.

What happens if you just don’t go to the temple? Or say you’re a full tithe payer but are not wouldn’t this turn off a bunch of people

Nobody really cares, and temple attendance is pretty bad anyway.

If you don't go, you don't get your magic underwear, which is a form of spiritual protection, or your endowment, which is your personal fiefdom in Mormon heaven.

If you don't believe in magic underwear and aren't a megalomaniac, there's no point in going to the temple. You can still do work on behalf of the dead. For example, baptism by proxy and getting the endowment (a rip-off of masonic ceremonies) for dead people might be your thing. However, the Buddhist methods of ancestor worship do not require 10% of your income.

I don't think they even have a cafeteria with good food in the temples anymore. You would think that might brink in lots of geezers. Free lunch!!!

First, they want to put all members under covenant to give all of their time and money to the corporation.

Second, by regular attendance you repeat the above covenant.

Third, control.

Fourth, money laundering. Who do you think makes money on the contracts to build the temples? Why are temple refurbished every 7 to 10 years? Why are some temples torn down and rebuilt?

Oh, jeez, the money laundering myth again. Money laundering has an actual definition. This is not it. They already have the money legally, and tax-free. They have zero need to “launder” it. They have no outside oversight. They can pay themselves whatever they want.

Name a temple that has had a full overhaul at 7 to 10 years? The only ones I know that were torn down were the wedding cake temples, which they decided (rightly so IMHO) were a bad design.

Lastly, they use local construction companies. They are likely LDS companies in the Intermountain West, but not outside that region. I visited a construction site in PA. The guy in charge was from Utah. Everyone else was local.

The new prefab temple rooms that are trucked to the sites is an Alabama company. I suppose that could be a Mormon controlled company, but I sure wouldn’t bet on it.

Here’s what I would list as the fourth reason for temples. Even if the member thinks the whole endowment thing is a joke, they can’t get married in the temple, or attend their children’s or extended family weddings without a TR. That’s a whole lot of social pressure, and in a big Mormon family, that pressure would be more or less constant. There’s always some cousin or niece/nephew or sibling getting hitched.

Has anyone verified whether or not the pentagram(s), etc have been removed from the exterior of the SLT?

I never cared in the past and I don’t care now. I wouldn’t even know where to look. I rate it about as pointless as worrying about astrological signs.

BoJ's sign changes quite frequently, but today he's definitely a crab.

Oh I think he is much more a Virgo. Loves numbers and everything in place. My second guess would be a lot of Aquarius in his chart.
Cancer, being a crab, carries its house with it and is more centered on things in and about the home.

I'm a Gemini, and Geminis never believe in astrology.
