Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Are institutions capable of sinning?

If so, the LDS church is caught up in a sin of all sins...

It must continue to spin lies, false witnesses, in order to justify and protect the "good feelings" about "the truthfulness of the Prophet, the Book, and organization."

Doesn't truth conflict with lies? Why would truth need to be lied about?

If truth comes from God, the LDS church is not of God.

Seems like Dr. Seuss is equally good proof that Winnie the Pooh is false.

and if your church is proved to be a hoax by it's OWN standards, that is one sorry church. It doesn't matter if we believe in the bible or not or even whether the bible is the word of God or ridiculous. What matters is that Mormons believe it is from God and then live in contradiction to their God's teachings and say it's Godly. (Whew, say that 3 time fast ;)

Another example of bearing false witness is testimony meeting. Those people don't KNOW. Some people don't even believe but are bearing false witness in the hopes of learning to believe.

Personally, there is a rumor going around the ward I left because someone offended me. Lie. No one offended me. I studied my way out. Sure, when I told the bishop, he behaved like a jackwagon but that didn't offend me. I was already out and it made no difference, membership-wise. It frustrated me and gave me a feeling of intellectual superiority and it validated my suspicion that I must be right or he wouldn't have flipped out. But it didn't offend me at all. Only one person has even asked me why I'm not at church but everyone seems to know. All those people are bearing false witness.

As a journalist, I know what constitutes libel and slander and how important it is to check your sources and double check your information. If you repeat a story without validation, you are in big trouble. God calls it bearing false witness. So all those so-called good Mormons are right up there with the adulterous murderers on their God's Top Ten No-No list.

Good luck to them with that.

I totally agree. The Bible bashers are totally missing the point.

Please read carefully:

"Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness AGAINST THY NEIGHBOR" [emphasis added].

There's a huge difference between saying "I know" when you actually don’t and falsely citing unforgivable sin as the reason a particular individual made tracks.

Its that "against thy neighbor" part most folks ignore or miss. Little white lies are generally harmless. Accusing someone of improprieties without sound evidence can do irreparable damage.

What bothers me about the whole bit is that most folks need an imaginary deity's poorly written fantasy novel to tell them its not right to spread lies about their fellow beings.

Using the bible to discredit mormonism is like using Through The Looking Glass to discredit Lord Of The Rings. I’m no fan of TSCC by any stretch, but one need not clutch at straws to demonstrate said cult’s more-than-lacking veracity.

Bible bashers, by the way, are no different than BoM bashers.
