The CHAIRMAN. I do not quite understand that "when it is divine." You have revelations, have you not?
Mr. SMITH. I have never pretended to nor do I profess to have received revelations. I never said I had a revelaton except so far as God has shown to me that so-called Mormonism is God's divine truth; that is all.

Well, how about the angel who was going to kill him unless he started banging the hired help in the barn?

Does that mean that Section 138 can be ignored? I thought that it was a 'cornerstone' of LDS doctrine. He said that it was a 'divine communication,' which I thought was the very definition of 'revelation.'
But then, "I don't know that we teach that."

Didn't he originally write that he saw both Michael and Adam in his daydream? In LDS theology they are the same person, so I think they took out Michael before they put it in the D&C IIRC.

This excerpt is from the hearings regarding seating Reed Smoot as a senator. The profit testifying is Joseph F. Smith, Hy's kid and Joe's nephew. Father of Joseph Fielding Smith. Good 'ol Joseph F. could dissemble with the best of them. GBH probably learned from him.
