Victorious rebels in Libya won’t need to martyr themselves to win an adoring harem of virgins -- one of their governing council’s first orders of business yesterday was lifting restrictions on men having multiple wives.

“As an Islamic country, we adopted sharia as the principal law,” decreed Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, head of the National Transition Council. “Any law that violates sharia is null and void legally.”

The religious zeal of the new Libyan law is irrelevant anyhow. The powers that took down Qhaddafi(sp?) couldn't give a flat Sideways F### about who's prayin' to whom. They will pull the strings when needed. They just acquired that last remaining fresh water aquaphor(sp?) in Africa. 500miles of underground fresh water to make certain French contingents a killing in the food markets.

I live on top of one and have the dubious pleasure of seeing the spelling in public service anouncements not to polute it with used oil and the like.

What that article doesn't make clear is if polygamy in Libya would be limited to the four wives allowed to each Muslim man per the Quran (the Quran says that men may marry up to four women if they can treat all four women fairly...if not, then they need to stick to only one wife). If that's the case, it probably would not mesh well with the FLDS practice of wife hoarding. Although admittedly, the four wife rule has not stopped some Muslim men over the centuries of doing their own wife hoarding.
