Middle Earth vs Mormonism

Much prefer Tolkien to Smith. More plausible, too. Watching the movie can produce several 'religious' experiences in me. Seeing Gandalf as a white personage come to rescue the besieged Helm's Deep gives me serious Whoa.

I've long felt that fiction, art, etc. can be effective vehicles for expressing fundamental human truths. IMO the arts can be more effective than reality.

One of the troubles with Mormonism is that its fiction is not particularly compelling. The BoM is one big snooze fest. It's too bad that they didn't have a good writer available.
