Mitt Romney drops bombshell from his past

Via ABC News' Michael Falcone, who got his hands on an interview with Mitt Romney in a forthcoming issue of People magazine:

"I tasted a beer and tried a cigarette once, as a wayward teenager, and never did it again."

I can see why this could end his candidacy!

Wasting a beer really is unforgivable.

Depends on what "beer" is. For example, wasting coors or budweiser or any number of US domestic watered down "beer" is perfectly understandable.

In fact, the Bud/Miller/Coors evil triumvirate are best used as drain cleaners anyway.

I was thinking that if just the article was posted - without the link - nobody would have believed it was real, and thought it was a made-up joke. But it's real!

I could see that he would talk this way in a stake conference or something, where everybody would say, 'tsk, tsk' and then commend him for resisting these great temptations of life and returning to the straight and narrow. He's been saved! The prodigal son has returned!

This may just be something his consultants have told him to do to look less than "squeaky clean Mormon." ie Human! Pundits often describe Romeny as wooden, stiff etc. Who knows if it even happened.

Still, I think Tommy should start to look into some disciplinary action against Brother Romney for not protecting the "good name of the church." Will people begin to think the Word of Wisdom is not that important? Maybe the outside world will get the idea that the Mormon Church is full of people who've tried beer and cigarettes. Lions and tigers and bears oh my! The bar has been raised.

If he did that, then there's no doubt that he.... touched himself inappropriately as well!

After my family's strict MORmON indoctrination, as a teen, I'd most likely have faced a firing squad than to have tried a cigarette. I am not joking.

As youngsters, we were HORRIFIED when a pop machine at a remote location unexpectedly dropped a can of Pepsi and we had no more change. we were very thirsty out on a bike ride. we threw the canned cola away rather than drink it.

I could tell many more similar stories. Romney is a POS compared to the way we lived up to Mormon principles.

This is Romney's "Bill Clinton dope smoking" moment, except here Mitt is trying to sound "human."

What everybody needs to focus on is how Romney ran his businesses and state government; it's not a pretty sight.
