Service Mission Question

My TBM friend's son is doing a 'service mission' at the Bishop's storehouse...I understand that it is basically free work for the church...but how are they viewed by the church members?

My friend's son is somewhere on the spectrum - high functioning Aspergers most likely and thank goodness they realize he couldn't do a regular mission.

I am just wondering more details about it. Is it two years? Will he do the same thing for the two years?

No way around the fact that "service missions" never replace proselyting missions in Mormons' eyes.

I guess it's good that they try to have something for everybody. It would be better to foster an environment in which missions didn't matter at all.
