Elder Jeffrey R. Holland - Dec. 17, 2011, Laie, HI

http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/61847/BYU-Hawaii-Ground-broken-for-campus-expansion-project.html

So how are they building the SLC mega mall & apts?

I recall hearing church members referring to tithing as "fire insurance".

What kind of message does that send to members about how "optional" tithing really is?

At least they aren't doing it on my dime.

I don't support their schools for more reasons than one.
The biggest reason though, they didn't think I was worth educating in 1975. You know, being female, no important family members, not from Utah, and sin of all sins, My talent was painting and sculpture.

What Holland is likely saying is that "if you're looking for funds for things that don't help LDS inc out, yer outta luck. Malls and condos that eventually will monatary pay returns back to LDS inc are an other thing entirely."

=)

Actually I have no idea what he means. I've given up trying

He's playing semantics and he knows it. Shows his dishonesty.

"Church" = only the religious wing of the corporation. He is excluding the Corporation of the COJCOLDS and of the presiding bisho-pricks.

Holland just showed his hand, once again, that he is a corporate man through and through. What a weenie.

I'm amazed he admitted that even though you are a tithe payer, you most likely won't get anything, including an education. In other words, we don't care if you're poor as dirt, and paid into this project. You're not getting any return on that money. Too bad most tithe payers either won't see that article, or will gloss over that detail.

Technically, Holland is telling the truth. There is no money IN THE CHURCH, except what the members give. Any extra money beyond what the church needs to operate as a church is siphoned off and invested into the pet projects and businesses owned by the Corporation of the President and its subsidiaries, like City Creek Mall. Its a very clever statement designed to obfuscate the reality of what happens to tithing funds.

The church has no money except what members give us, but we are building the mall without using any tithing money.

They just want it both ways. Like always.
