Selected Teachings From Prophet Spencer W. Kimball:

"Sometimes masturbation is the introduction to the more serious sins of exhibitionism and the gross sin of homosexuality. We would avoid mentioning these unholy terms and these reprehensible practices were it not for the fact that we have a responsibility to the youth of Zion that they be not deceived by those who would call bad good, and black white." (Ensign, November 1980, p.94)

"[Masturbation] too often leads to grievous sin, even to that sin against nature, homosexuality. For, done in private, it evolves often into mutual masturbation—practiced with another person of the same sex—and thence into total homosexuality." (The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, p.282)

All I can wonder is what in the world kept me from becoming Gay according to this Prophet of the Lord.

What's wrong with me?

Why am I not into "total homosexuality" (whatever that is) by now?

And why am I into "total heterosexuality" instead?

Somewhere something went terribly wrong!

You know, all the times I have ever rubbed one off, the idea of having another guy rubbing me, while I rubbed him never entered my mind as something I would want to try. It's kind of weird, and kind of oddly specific. You with old Spencer is hiding a skeleton or two in his closet? I bet they are absolutely fabolous skeletons, very deep in that closet.

Well, he should have mentioned that people who engage in this ativity become deaf, or grow hair on their palms...

Interestingly I had a friend who was gay and a convert to Mormonism. This was 30 years ago.

One of the appeals of Mormonism was that maybe it could help him stop being gay (that was back then). It didn't.

It was very interesting that he had never masturbated until he was 18.

I believed ol'don'tkillthelittlebirds and didn't attack myself till I was 23.

I've made up for it since.

Early starter I guess at 10 or 11. I can't imagine how a guy could wait till 17 or 18 or 23. You guys must have been teenage spiritual giants!

I swallowed the bullsh*t whole. I truly thought I'd become gay, and becoming gay would usher in spiritual, and even physical death. I didn't want to die. I actually used to wake myself up and cut off my wet dreams mid-emmission because I felt guilty. I thought they were sent by Satan because I looked at the cover of Penthouse while passing by a 7-11. Luckily, I read about nocturnal emmissions in the newer edition of the Boy Scouts manual when I was 15 or 16.

The good thing is, I gained amazing prostate control, and to this day can cut-off my peeing mid-stream. It's a great party trick.

TMI?

Remember to sue the church when you develop prostate cancer. In fact, we should probably start a class action lawsuit against the church from rfmers who are suffering from prostate problems. We can have them sign over the Ceder Creek mall to pay for all the medical expenses.

I'm amazed. 23?! I was 5 or 6! Of course, I didn't have any idea what I was actually doing until my early teens.

Then again, girls don't get the guilt trip about it that boys do.

How do these GAs know so much about sexuality yet they know nothing about church history?

There is no other way to argue it, SWK was a FALSE PROPHET.

I am as straight as they come, yet if anybody was a candidate for "total homosexuality", based on the risks I took as a teenager, it would have been me.

This is the kind of reasoning that reveals someone has no f-ing idea what he's talking about. Hey, Spence, 100% of homosexuals started out breathing, so that must have lead to them being gay. Start breathing alone, then with other guys, and the next thing you know...

I know it's a touchy subject (pun intended), but if frequency of youthful, er, "self-pleasuring" were related to gayness, I'd be Ru Paul.

Going from being TBM to a dude in the military to a homophobe, jack mo, ex mo, it was the line of questioning in these threads strangely that made me accept gay brothers and stop my hate. No dude would choose to be gay; it makes no sense to choose it and no amount of tuggin my bird or watching porn (yeah with ladies and dudes too) would "turn" me gay. But gay dudes I hear love being gay - they love it (from what I hear) and not because the vajeen is lined with hundreds of teeth. It goes without saying the that gay dudes were born gay. Stopping hating is sort of a big deal for me and I love getting rid of that shit.

>"Sometimes masturbation is the introduction to the more serious sins of exhibitionism and the gross sin of homosexuality.

This is actually too specific a claim to be made without any basis.

Therefore let's examine it, by back analysis.

If someone who was a TBM had homosexual feelings then they would tend to look for an explanation for these feelings. They would dismiss the idea that they could be naturally occurring feelings, so would tend to look for an explanation based on themselves and not outside forces such as nature.

They might look back on their lives and think: "I masturbated. I masturbated with my friend/brother, therefore THAT must be what made me have homosexual thoughts. So it was all MY fault!"

Now, whether or not it was Mr Kimball who this happened to or some hapless young TBM who confessed this scenario to Mr Kimball does not matter, as it was Mr Kimball who promulgated this grossly flawed and entirely erroneous theory via his teachings and his books.

I can prove this guy is totally false, but in the opposite direction. I never, er, pleasured myself at all until AFTER I was 19 years old and got it on with a returned missionary. So if anything I'd say skipping masturbation actually makes you gay, not the other way around. ;-)

I agree with Dave. I masturbated maybe 2 or 3 times before I was 23, and NEVER on my mission. I was a teenager when Kimball was prophet, and he made me feel guilty about everything! According to Kimball, I should be straighter than everyone else on this board!

I never had a sexual experience with another person in the room until well after I'd already come out as gay. And sorry to contradict the profit of the lard, but I've never been attracted to females in any way, never will.

Only two or three times? Even if you are exaggerating, the only way you could have been doing less then once a week, was if you were really working overtime to suppress your urges. You must have been miserable all the time.

I was not only working overtime, I was obsessed with being a good mormon because I was convinced I was going to hell for being gay. I was miserable all the time.

I was able to hold things together until I was 25. I ended up spending several weeks in the hospital with suicidal thoughts and severe depression. It took me 10 years to work through all my issues.

So thank you Spencer W. Kimball for filling the first part of my life with guilt and self-loathing. Masturbation (or it's avoidance) didn't have anything to do with me being gay. If I could do things over again I'd embrace my sexual orientation, and my little factory would be working extra shifts.

The more I think about it, the more I think there might be something to that whole Spencer W. Kimball was probably gay theory. I kind of feel really bad for the guy now. Even if he wasn't gay, that level of sexual repression is just sad.

I feel the same about BKP. Seriously what is the OBSESSION with homosexuality??? Although I don't feel bad for them. They are evil men who destroy lives.

Your problem is you did not obey all the rest gospel laws. If you had you would have been gay. Your sin made you straight.

And I'm gay. Was hopelessly attracted to my hot BYU roomate for 3 years and never rubbed one out. I did get hard when I gave him a spot in the gym though...

I think that book has probably caused as much, or more, heart ache and pain as the rest of the mormon twaaddle put together. I don't know whether to hate him for writing it or pity him for thinking it up in the first place.

Just to contribute, I'm gay, and didn't indulge until right before I turned 21.

It pretty much looks like the majority of the gay guys were non-indulgers a la SWK's great wish. Shows how much he knew.
