Actually, federal courts recently ruled...

that it is not a crime to lie about being a veteran.

Somehow, I really don't think that lying qualifies as free speech, but then our supremes recently equated dollars with free speech in the Citizens United ruling, so obviously my thinking isn't twisted enough to follow current "law".
