Daymon Smith's rebuttal:

It's easy to accept the Washington Post/Pew Poll as presenting reliable information, and it's refreshing to have a watchdog (Daymon Smith) challenge it.

Is Smith for or against the survey? What's wrong with taking a survey among a concentrated area of Mormons? I just didn't get it. Sorry.

imposed by the sample selection process, the survey doesn't accurately reflect the opinions and beliefs of Mormons generally. So, for example, it looks like Mormons attend church more frequently than the population at large, but really that number doesn't accurately reflect Mormons in general because only a certain type of Mormon was selected to participate in the survey-- people who self-identified as Mormon and satisfied selection criteria imposed by the people who designed the survey.

Anyone who has attended an LDS church and served in a leadership capacity knows that the activity rate is abysmal-- certainly not anywhere near what the survey claims (77% of respondents reported that they attend church weekly). That should be enough to call the authority of the rest of the findings into question.

According to the report--"Six-in-ten Mormons (62%) say the American people as a whole are uninformed about Mormonism."

According to John Dehlin-- "I say 9.5 in ten of MORMONS are uninformed about Mormonism." :-)
