If the mormon religion was everything it's claimed to be, why would it need a support group for people who leave?
That's the one question that's really stuck with me- you never hear about an ex-Buddhist support group, or an ex-Jewish support group? Clearly a religion is effed up if it has websites like this for it...look at the other religions with big support groups like this- Scientologists and Jehovah's Witnesses. Awesome. There is something wrong when you have thousands and thousands of posts from people who are trying to recover from their experiences in that religion.
What is it about the church and its leaders that has you convinced it's okay to give them your money when they don't give you any accounting of how it's spent?
If the church is true, why are you counselled not to read anything about the church that doesn't come from church approved sources? Why aren't you allowed to look at all the information about the church, pro and con, and allowed to make up your own mind? Don't you feel your church will stand up to objective investigation? Aren't you afraid they are hiding something?
I'm always told that if I sincerely study the BoM and pray about it and feel anything at all in the process, then that's the holy spirit telling me that the church/BoM is true, but if I don't feel anything then it's only because I didn't pray right or didn't want to believe badly enough. So, whatever the outcome of this praying 'experiment', I'm only allowed to interpret it to mean that the church is true. Is this fair? Is there anything/scenario that can convince you that the church/BoM isn't true?
If the Celestial Kingdom is going to be anything at all like church or the temple,...Do you really want to spend eternity there?..., with the people you go to church with?
then why are you assigned when and where you will go to church service? Why do ALL other religions let people pick and choose the time and place that works for them?
Thanks for the responses. I never really thought there was any one question that would make them stop & actually think about their religion. It seems all questions make them uber-defensive. Maybe I am under the false expectation that real TBMs are teachable. *wink*

Actually these questions don't really do their job of making people think, but they DO get them all defensive. While the questions may pile up in their subconscious, to be dealt with later when they have The Ensign or their bishop in front of them, there has got to be some internal crisis to make them actually start thinking and/or questioning.

When you went through your endowment in the temple the first time, did you really feel like you were in the presence of your loving Heavenly Father?
of course there are a couple others...
Do you think Joseph Smiths marriage to Lucinda Morgan, the widow of William Morgan had anything to do with the masonic compass and square found on the temple veil?
Or my favorite- Why did Jesus kill all those people in 3 Nephi right after he died for their sins, while forgiving the people who killed him?
"Why did Jesus kill all those people in 3 Nephi right after he died for their sins, while forgiving the people who killed him?" Good one! I had never thought about that ; )

Oooh, oooh! I know, I know! Jesus didn't kill them. It's just that the earth couldn't withstand his presence at his arrival and when things started falling apart they hit and killed all those people, including children and infants! Yeah, that's the answer!
Why don't you feel that Joseph Smith's plural wives should be given some credit for helping him become the man he was (a great man in their eyes)? And if we can agree that those women must have served some purpose for Joseph and in turn bringing about the Lard's kingdom on the earth, is it wrong that they have been swept under the historical rug by the church?
This is one I have asked two bishops, both raising daughters. Asked them how they explain the erasing of these women.
Neither answered and both left me alone for the rest of my time in their ward.
I love it how we think that we have such great, pithy questions that would really make Mormons think when 90% of these would be easily explained away via Mormon religious justification.
I don't want to aI just want them anything! They counter all arguments with unsupportable BS. I'd rather talk to a rationalist than a religionist any day.
