But it is combined with freezing rain, which has frozen on the windows of the study. And on the roads, footpaths, etc.

Wigan, which is only 3 miles from here, has a good couple of inches already. Ah well - Winter at last is here to break up the soil and kick-start our lovely spring flowers.

:-)

I used to have a work colleague who would take his tiny little Yamaha FS1E scooter all the way from Shropshire to the Wigan Casino for the Northern Soul all nighters. He got killed on the way back, only a quarter mile from home.

Wigan! I've been there. Spent a lot of time tracting in Timperley, Oldham, Crosby, etc.

I called my most golden conversion up a couple of years ago to tell her "sorry its all bogus". Her response? "Yes, I know that, I was just trying to be nice and let you feel good about yourself. " :)

We did have some massive snows when I was there. Loved the people, wish I didn't bother so many of them now and could have had more fun.

Oh,joy! Think I just heard a fire engine out and about... :o((

Cant see out of the ^%$^ing windows very well. Covered in ice from the ice storm we had!

Some while ago I asked here what ice storms were like. Now I know! ;o))

Clearly our ice storms are not as impressive as the US/Canadian ones, but even so...

Our daughter Olivia is in the UK for year and living in Newbury. She just sent us a very excited message on Facebook. She has never seen snow falling before.

My FB page is full of pictures of a blizzard in Rome. Bizarre. I live in the home of 2002 Winter Olympics and it is sunny and dry. We have had almost no snow. Weird weather. Take care.
Here is a picture. Hope the link works

Cheryl, that would be a good idea! ;o))

Meanwhile, the regional airport is closed and a points failure means all trains from London are stopped. This in addition to a pre-existing problem on the rail network.

I know, Freeman.

What has made it worse is that the modern electronic signals are not as hardy as the old semaphore signals with their paraffin lamps.

Freezing rain is the worst weather there is. We get that in the pacific north west every few years. That stuff is treacherous! I've seen people crawl around parking lots on their hands and knees because standing up is not possible. I've also been stuck with no electricity for a week and a half. Nasty stuff.

I first heard about freezing rain on RFM. First time I have seen it in real life.

was driving from warwick back up to sheffield saturday evening. dear god the midlands can't handle snow! the m-1 was basically at standstill -- it took 5 hours to get back north!

interestingly, as soon as we got to yorkshire, the roads were plowed.

love the snow though, absolutely beautiful.
