The ward always registered the boys and paid for it out of church funds, the parents had very little involvement. At least that's how it was hadled in the ward I was in when I was a YM leader.
You know what I hate about Scouts? The fact that it doesn't allow gays or atheists to be apart of it. Not that I'm a big fan of scouting, I just find it terrible that they discriminate against said groups, and I'm sure there's others that I'm missing.
our chartering organization took a major hit back in the mid 90's when it made the decision that we would be inclusive to gays.
a good percentage of our congregation is gay. There's no way that our church could tell members of our congregation that they are allow to participate in all our programs except one.
We have gay former scouts on our troop committee.
So what you hate about scouts is a monolithic misunderstanding on your part.
There are many gays in scouting. Just not open in red states or marmentdom.
as for athiests, our troop is the most secular, heathen, pagan unit in NYC.
