I've never heard anyone say in essence, "depression is a blessing", but mormons are good at rationalizing everything (good or bad) into something good.

Not trying to bash her good intentions, but it's a strange thing to say.

Anything can be labeled a gift you learn from it.

I've said it once and I'll say it again I think that there is chemical inbalance caused depression but I also think that there is depression caused by a normal brain being put under so much stress it has no other way to snap under so much pressure. So why is a mormon haveing to say something like that? mormons are under enough stress to snap.

Pardon my insensitivity, but isn't that the "gift" that killed her son?

...and it killed my sister too. Marie is deluded.

Cool!
So I'll ship her my depression- in a plain brown wrapper, of course- and when it arrives, you can make your move and offer her a nice shoulder.

Sound like a plan?

I went through severe postpartum depression when I had my first child. The second time I got pregnant, I had to fight my husband tooth and nail to be able to take an antidepressent during my final trimester. It made all the difference in the world. No postpartum depression. When it comes to mental health issues, TBM DH has absolutely no comprehension.

Melancholy and sadness are described by author Thomas Moore as "facets" of the diamond of the human condition and should be more fully embraced and validated as an integral and necessary part of humanity.

Depression is a dangerous and dysfunctional disorder that can and should be treated.

Authors like Moore assert that if Western culture did a better job of embracing melancholy, depression would be far less prevalent.

That was one of my biggest challenges after leaving mormonism. It took years before I accepted that it was okay to be sad. Now, I have melancholy days and I just allow myself to wallow in it because I know it's just another emotion.

ChurchCo has a tough time dealing with

a) Everything IRL

b) 'especially' mental illness.

More than that I think it causes it.

Marie needs to do the world a favor and admit that Mormonism is a failure. She should use her fame to help others avoid the abyss that she was born into, which has wreaked havoc on her life. I would think she'd be strong enough at this point in her life to stand up on her own two feet.

A gift?

Full clinical depression isn't like feeling down or blue. Saying that it is (or implying such) as like comparing terminal cancer with a cold.

It's a horrible, horrrible disease. It can be totally debilitating, both emotionally and cognitively. In the worst cases it can prove fatal as some would rather face oblivion than continue to live with the disease and commit suicide.

This woman has absolutely *no* idea what she is talking about.
