Actually he didn't appear like one of the guys. He answered questions about his economic plan, taxes, missile defense, Iran, and potential Vice-Presidental selections. he spoke frankly about the military, Afghanistan, and Putin. All in all he was succinct and got his message across.
Like him or not he'll be the Republican nominee in August and give Obama a run for his money and will most likely win as long as gas prices stay high and the deficit continues to rise. The citizens are not going to be worried about Mitten's secret handshakes or tithing when they are more concerned with taxes and the economy.
Your right on your assessment, but be prepared to get attacked by the pet issues crowd. For most people, politics is about what is best for their pocket book, but there is a large minority who put other issues first, and who tend to think that most of the rest of the world agrees with their one strong view so much, that they will overlook everything else.
I am not saying that Romney would be better then Obama, or vice versa, just that most people don't get wrapped up in things like gun rights or protecting the environment when they are trying to put food on the table. If gas stays above three dollars a gallon, Obama is done.
