One of Romney's opponents just gave a speech about the budget, and said something like

"he (Romney) used the word 'marvelous' to describe the it, not a word usually used to describe budgets. In fact, not a word usually heard at all." The audience laughed.

To me, 'marvelous' is a Hinckley word. It shouts out General Conference. Is that your impression too?

I think it is an interesting little thing for outsiders to pick up on.

It reminds me of the word "precious". I remember hearing that in church alot, and almost nowhere else. The strange thing was that it was usually used by men. For example "my precious wife" or "my precious daughter".

Who can identify the apostle? (I wonder how many GC talks in a row he has done this.)

"I marvel..." where marvel takes about 5 seconds to say in the old-timey Utah drawl.

Exceedingly is used exceedingly often in the Book of Mormon.

I was thinking exceedingly was probably used so much in the Book of Mormon since it sounds "Bibly".

So I did a quick search. # of uses of exceedingly by book.

Old Testament - 25
New Testament - 12
Book of Mormon - 110
Doctrine & Covenants - 7
PoGP - 2

Then I started wondering about "and it came to pass":

Old Testament - 202
New Testament - 34
Book of Mormon - 151
D&C - 3
PoGP - 9

Hahaha... a friend of mine HATES the word "marvelous" because it reminds her of church/GC. She gets annoyed whenever she hears it.

And it came to pass that Joseph Smith became exceedingly sick of using the phrase and the word that was so over used.

"Marvelous" makes me remember the book "A Marvelous Work and a Wonder" by ??? LeGrand somebody. It was an absolute classic in its day. Unfortunately the writer died, which means everything he said or wrote is no longer valid.

It was Obama that said,"he (Romney) used the word 'marvelous' to describe the it, not a word usually used to describe budgets. In fact, not a word usually heard at all."

The first thing I thought was that "marvelous" is a normal word … for a mormon!

Isn't it wonderful! Isn't it marvelous!
