When I got married for the first time, 25 years ago, I bought a scratch ticket on our wedding night. I wouldn't have expected it, but we won $1000.00 on a scratch ticket!! A great start for a young couple, right?! Not so with my tbm ex. She called the bishop the next morning and asked if we could tithe it for the blessings. The bishop said that he would get back to us. He called our hotel room a couple of hours later and said that we could not tithe it, but in order to receive forgiveness, we would have to turn over the entire amount to the church....which we did obediently. But having been out of the church for 15 years, that BS makes me laugh now. How many people who could really have used something like that to get ahead, were mind-screwed out of money for the greedy church?!

It's because the church gladly accepts money from people who make money off of pornography (Marriot Motels), cigarettes, beer and magazines!

Of course it was BS! What an A hole BP!

But as a TBM anything you'd spent the money on would be guilt ridden. That nice Filet Mingon would not taste right! You're eating the LORD"S money! That new TV? Every time you looked at it, the guilt would whisper... you were supposed to give all of that money to the church!!!!! Even though it is considered 'ill gotten goods' because it was ...gambling! So it was just as well you gave it away. Hope you've had many happy returns on a $1000 since then.

I still think how irritating it was to need a new wheel bearing that cost $150 to fix. I went to the BP and asked for the TSCCs help. "We don't do things like that." I'd been in the ward for two years and had never asked for a dime and yet my tithing was $150 a month from alimony and I was job hunting at the time my wheel bearing broke in my car! What a doofus the BP was! Some "Christian" church huh?

Funny, the church had no problem spending your $1000. You couldn't tithe on it, but could give it ALL up. These things are hilarous now that "my eyes are open".
