At a sports event for one of my teens, I was talking to a freind whose spouse works at BYU. She said one of the reasons church leaders are worried about single men and women "Just hanging out" and avoiding marriage is that the rate of casual sex at BYU is rising dramaticlly and so is the rate of the use of porn.

I'd been told by college kids recently that promiscuity was rising at BYU, but this the first heavy duty authoritative data I've heard. I wasn't given numbers.

Last time I was in the vicinity of YBU there was a startling lack of information and awareness regarding birth control or STD protection. Let's hope that if there is more casual sexual activity that at least there is also more awareness...

Unfortunately, more awareness will not help matters when there is folklore belief on the ground that birth control equals premeditation. That makes premarital sex a much more serious sin in the eyes of many.

This was true when I was at BYU (in 70's) and I would be surprised if it is not still the case.

Correct me if I am wrong.

You can get birth control at the BYU student health clinic, trust me :) They don't even ask for a marriage certificate or threaten to tell your bishop.

Are you kidding? You actually think that's a possibility?

You wouldn't believe the amount of **** that goes on at BYU Hawaii. I have never seen more drugs in my life. I also have never been around more homosexuals and sex. I would say 30 percent of the students are not keeping the honor code.

i wish I had known that when I was in the market for attending a party school - I wouldn't have wasted any time leaving Provo.

seriously! I wasn't looking for a party school really but I might have considered byuH if I had known enough people there were "corrupt" and into breaking the rules.

I was always really against going to a church school where everything was so rigidly controlled and didn't want to deal with a curfew etc. when I would finally be out on my own after leaving my parents house...I couldn't understand why anyone would want the rules and control of byu. It probably helped that some free will thinking prevailed and the morg failed to make me obsessed with getting married asap.

I did badly want to go to hawaii but the fact that I would have had to go to byu to get there was something I couldn't get past...now I'm thinking I maybe could have had a lot of fun there!

My first week I met my first guy gay friend at BYU Hawaii. He was going into Honolulu on the weekends and doing the dirty. My second week my first lesbian friend who happened to be getting it on with her dorm roomie. Third week I went to a party with some friends with about 100 students in attendance. It was a weed/drinking party. I was the only one not using because I was trying to me a good little Mormon girl. My best RM friend went off the deep end and got into drugs and sex. Later was diagnosed with Bipolar. Alot of the kids were only there for Hawaii and not for belief in the church. Most were on their way out. I wouldn't recommend it to a TBM coming straight from BYU Idaho or Provo. It would be a culture shock. Not to mention the Polynesian cross dressers. They would dress in makeup, earrings, dresses. The church never stopped them because they didn't want to offend their culture but it was obvious to all of us they were gay. I lived in a house with 30 girls and 5 guys. We all slept together ever night. Not sex though. Nobody really cared. I practically moved in with my boyfriend while attending. Wow I saw a lot of interesting things at that school and it was totally opposite of BYU Idaho where I had spend the previous 2 years. I loved ever minute.

I have a feeling that its absolutly nothing to do with porn its just as acessable as it was before but now the church is about to snap.

When were you at byuh Darth Jesus? Anytime between 2004 and 2008? If so, with it being such a small school and community I wouldn't be surprised if we had run into each other.

I bet the rate of "oh, come on! Nobody really believes this nonsense, do they? I'm just here because it is the only school daddy will pay for" is rising dramatically as well.

so, Brandon Davies wasn't the lone BYU student who did the deed with his GF? He just told somebody and got made an example of, I guess.
