ensign december 2011 uses a Bloch painting "the resurrection", but removes the angels' wings, clothes their bare shoulders and skin behind their arms:
http://www.dovesandserpents.org/wp/2012/05/on-immodest-angels/

it is talking about this article:
The Condescension of Jesus Christ
BY DAVID L. FRISCHKNECHT
Curriculum Department
http://www.lds.org/ensign/2011/12/the-condescension-of-jesus-christ?lang=eng

here's the pdf:
http://media.ldscdn.org/pdf/lds-magazines/ensign-december-2011/2011-12-18-the-condescension-of-jesus-christ-eng.pdf

the ensign article does not inform the members that they have modified this artwork, making this a *perfect* example of proof that the church changes the facts in order to create their own version of the "truth", that they then present to their members, without telling them they've made changes.

this particular artwork is ALSO used in a GBH talk in the liahona 1989 march edition:
http://www.lds.org/liahona/1989/03/the-symbol-of-christ?lang=eng

if anyone has that one can they send me a scan/photo of it? would be interesting to see if that image is also changed or if this is something new =)

As someone said in another thread, click on "Other Issues," then "2011," then "December 2011," then click the top download button and then download text. It brings up the issue with all the artwork. Scroll to page 54 and you'll find it.

The church has also painted over the Masonic shirt pins that Brigham Young often wore in many early portraits.

It's much like hundreds of photos taken during the Lenin period in the USSR which were retouched decades later so that key individuals no longer existed. Even movie footage was reprinted with shadows obscuring problematic people.

The "Ministry of Truth" is alive and well in Mormonism.

Is there a site where this is documented? I'm intrigued by this.

Reminds me of the cover of the album Abbey Road. In the original Paul has a cigarette in his hand, nowadays you often see it printed with the cigarette air brushed out.

PS I know this doesn't have much to do with the subject. Please make an allowance, I'm British, the Beatles are in my blood!

..and asked them if the church needed permission to make these changes and if they asked for permission. will be interesting to see what they say, if they respond.

I just cannot see why there is the need to change things...The original is lovely as is. I am getting tired of being duped.....

Why on earth would you feel the need to change artwork created by someone. Aren't there any artists in the LDS world who could paint something for these guys that is orchestrated the way they want????. Why do they need to mess up someone else's art????
