I just started "Fifty Shades of Grey" and can't put it down. I was curious to see what all the buzz was about. Definitely literary porn and it's been super fun to read so far.

What are you reading?

I just finished why people believe weird things by Michael Shermer (oft recommended by this board). I highly recommend it. It explains how people can believe and argue for seemingly irrational beliefs (holocaust denial, ufo abduction, etc.)

Just finished The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, a story about Dinah's life in old testament times and Anita\s views about what REALLY went down. Great read.

Am reading The Speckled Monster, a historical tale of battling Smallpox. Not too far into that one; it's nonfictional account of how that horrible disease was irradicated.

"The Red Tent" is one of my all time favorites. Right now, I am reading "The Winter King" which is a biography of Henry VII the first Tudor king.

I waited tables with a lovely and kind woman 6 years ago and she gave me that book as a gift. I really miss her.

I always enjoy the books with the female's perspective in mythologies.

Right now I'm reading "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" and "How to Cook Everything."

Zimbardo conducted the Stanford Prison experiment and the book is about that experiment. It also discusses the matter of whether people themselves are evil or whether situations cause people to become evil. In short, the banality of evil.

11/22/63 by Stephen King. It's about going back in time to save President John Kennedy from being shot. So far it's pretty good.

Bloodline Of The Holy Grail by Laurence Gardner.

The hidden lineage of Jesus revealed. So far, it's pretty interesting, giving a different view of religous history.

Nonfiction: In 1945, a mysterious Nazi secret weapons project code-named The Bell (Die Glocke) left its underground bunker in lower Silesia, with its project documentation, and Obergruppenfuhrer SS Hans Kammler. The Culture of Fear, by Barry GLassner. This is a sociological study of fear-mongering by media and political parties.

One point the author makes is that America fears it will be destroyed by single mothers when those young women combined have less economic clout than a single fortune five hundred corporation.

Saints by OSC because I'm trying to figure out why these folks converted to Mormonism and why did that lady leave her children and also, dude, he made Joseph Smith look lascivious. Did he notice this?! He hit on the main female the second he saw her. When i first read it I thought, did he start this religion to get women?

Now I'm reading a comic called "Y: The Last Man." I haven't read comics in decades, and these have been good. The Walking Dead has a good story, like the AMC tv show, but the dialogue is very wooden and sounds a lot like the way Robert Kirkman talks.

My best friend from Junior High, Tracy Akers, is an award-winning author of young adult fantasy. I'm reading book three of her Souls of Aredyrah Series, called The Taking of the Dawn.

If you know a young adult (or even an older adult) who's into fantasy, these are good reads, and I'm not saying that just because Tracy's my friend, I truly can't put them down.

I just finished the Steve Jobs biography and next I'm going to read Out of Oz, the concluding book in the Wicked Years series by Gregory Maguire.

"The Moral Landscape" by Sam Harris...I'm only a quarter of the way through and I'm not finding it extremely enthralling...Now "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris was a great read. I highly encourage the entire world to read that book.
