Did we talk about this and I missed it? A reporter friend of mine in Oregon posted this link on FB so I don't know how old it is. The story is about how the church wrote a letter "inviting" the committee chair to stop protesting about the MTC expansion. Church or Mafia - you decide.

http://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/central/provo/neighborhood-chair-drops-mtc-fight-after-letter-from-church/article_dba7b325-5c70-566f-b6af-96c523e1ff84.html

BTW, this reporter friend (who I know from our BYU days) pointed out a comment about how terrible it is that that worthy church members, who had covenanted in the temple to give their all to the building up of the church, would spearhead a movement like this, effectively turning their backs on the temple covenants over something as silly as their view. I assume that means he agrees with it. It may be time to unfriend this guy.

Completely frosts me, and I don't even live in Provo.

I'd like to extend an invitation for the brethren to kiss my lily white ass.

Yep, the pulled the old double bind. Works for them every time.

Secular wasn't working, so let's throw in an implied threat from the top dogs to your church membership. God will be mad at you if you don't sign! If God's mad at you. we'll have to think up a way to discipline you unruly children. How dare you go against us and stand up for your rights. You will pay!

You will pay twice. Once in property value and loss of self respect for not standing up for what you believe, and twice in tithing to build the stupid building.

I'm so glad my spine has grown back.

"People shouldn't be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."-V for Vendetta
I think this should also be true for religions.

Big corporations like to bully when things don't go their way. ChurchCo has an advantage, though. Members can be threatened easily without resorting to lawyers. Simply threaten to change the "eternal standing"or "worthiness" settings in that member's brainchip.

Also, keep in mind that most of the residents of that neighborhood are employed at BYU. Jobs are at stake.
