Context: the PNW used to be known as 'Missionary Heaven', because lots of influential, fairly decent TBMs around Seattle.

So, this a.m., I'm walking down the street, which happens to be close to the college. I see #1 missionary talking TO a college-age gal; I don't even like the body language going on there, seems to be the mish confronting the gal. Gal says: "Is That TRUE?" in a voice I can hear 10 M away... Mish #2 is between me & the place I want to go... but I, not wishing a confrontation, 'live & let live'.... angle away, but OF COURSE, he sees where Im headed, cuts me off with a 'street approach'.

I tell him: "Can you SEE that I'm AVOIDING YOU?"

still he comes Closer, extends a tract, asks me some 'catchy' question....

I reply: "40 years of Hate & Lies were enough for me"

Mish says: "Oh, were you a part of the Mormon church?"

ding ding ding ding ding!

Perfect thing at the perfect time. I'm in awe of the way you handled that. I always think of what to say afterwards.

I was attempting to be 'the picture of restraint';
Thanks, folks, you made my day!

That is funny.

I was in Seattle a few weeks ago for work. We went to WSU to tour a couple of the buildings. While we were walking through the big plaza we saw a set of missionaries.

I was halfway hoping they would come say something to me so I could ask them about some of the things that they've probably never been taught, but they didn't.

My nevermo co-workers were actually quite upset when I pointed the missionaries out. They found it horrible that they were posting missionaries at colleges where so many kids are away from home for the first time and vulnerable. I totally agreed.

That was one heck of a trick!

Richard the Bad is telling us that WSU...
--Washington State University--

isn't in Seattle (It's in Pullman, eastern Wa)

foggy COULD have visited Both places, but they're not co-located (could be <Lots> of other things with Same initials...

FYI:

WWU Western Washington University: Bellingham, 3 hrs N of Seattle ( time depends on traffic, where U start from)

UW: main campus in Seattle, satellites in Bothell, Tacoma

EWU: Eastern Washington University: Cheney, in Eastern WA.

Spokane (2nd largest city in the state) got Gypped, no state-supported university there.

Bellingham is actually about 90 minutes north of Seattle (made that trip many times) And don't forget Central Washington University in Ellensburg - the gateway to Yakima.

Actually EWU is in Cheney, over by Spokane.

CWU (Central Washington University) is in Ellensburg (my alma mater).

Cool Kenc. I got my BA from there in '85. Between liking school too much, and having to take a quarter off here and there to work took me quite a bit longer than the average 4 years to graduate. (That and 4 full majors). To paraphrase Zonker Harris, "I remember being a sophmore. Those were three of the best years of my life!"

Ahh, what I wouldn't give for a SuperMother Burger right about now.

Ah yes. It was University of Washington.

It has the big purple W like Weber State and I think I got it all switched around in my head.

No problem. I live in Wyoming now. It took me 10 years to get used to the fact that when they said "youdub" they weren't talking about the Huskies.

They are a bit pushy, eh? Blocking the street instead of knocking on doors. Who'da thunk it?

I did the street thang when I was on my mission (Aussieland)in the early 60s. We pretended to be "taking a survey". I complained to my MP that it was a thinly veiled lie. 2 weeks later that tactic ended. (It was probably an idea hatched by his dipshit assistants!) MP was a good guy, tho...

Maybe they were just getting tired of that slamming sound?

At the risk of giving away too much info, I actually was at UW as a missionary for a while. Me and my comp never went contacting though, we just goofed off the majority of the time.
