I like to say that MORmON leaders have never had any real revelations, but Joe SMith may have had one, but Joe never got to tell anyone else about this one, his best ever, so I am still basically correct.

According to Debra Marsh's masters thesis "Respectable Assassins" at BYU, the Carthage Mob thought they were doing the world a service by getting rid of Smith. Also, her data showed that they prospered after having done so.

Yes, listen to the audio of her presentation. There is kind of an uproar when she says that they prospered. It's a great thesis.

BTW, I just noticed that her paper is available in PDF.
