And what about BYU's federally-funded ROTC program? Are the Mormons now going to drum out of the ROTC corp, off its university campuses and out of its church any uniformed LDS cadet who publicly acknowledges a same-sex orientation?

Will the Mormon Church now encourage and support its own members in joining the ranks of the U.S. military when that same national military now willingly accepts into its ranks those who practice a so-called "sexually deviant lifestyle" that the Mormon Church officially denounces as being condemned by God?

When all is said and done, will the Mormon Church's "prophet" continue to stand with the LDS anti-gay God--or will the Mormon "prophet" finally abandon the LDS Church's historic doctrinal homophobic bigotry and patriotically follow the law of the land in supporting the recruitment and acceptance of military service members as equals, regardless of sexual orientation?

According the the Mormon Church's own Article of Faith, Latter-day Saints believe in honoring, sustaining and obeying the law.

God's law on homosexuality (according to the Mormons) is contrary to the law of the land--in that being gay or lesbian is now an acceptable orientation per national military standards--whereas according to the Mormon God, homosexuality is an unacceptabe "sin."

So, will the Mormon Church now do yet another about-face and salute the idea of joining a U.S. military that endorses "sin"?

Maybe so if, according to historic Mormon practice and doctrine, the LDS God once again redefines "truth," as demanded in and by the moment (aka, as happened with polygamy, blood atonement, Blacks and the priesthood . . .)

croaks so that newer blood can infuse "the head" of the Church with some sense of human decency and equality.

As usual the Morg has to be dragged, kicking and screaming into the modern times. Progress by attrition is the GA motto.

. . . noting that repeal of the bigoted anti-gay ban was most likely going to occur today, not on Monday (as you originally speculated).

But, hey, when it comes to equal rights for gays and lesbians, I'm with ya!

Now, some of us here will get back to examining that victory in the context of recovery from Mormonism (where, after all, you chose to make your celebratory announcement, as you may recall).

:)

My guess is that the Church will still support members joining the military and ignore the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, since there's not much they can do about it. They'll keep kicking homosexual students out of BYU for Honor Code violations, whether the students are in ROTC or not, since it's a private university and they can get away with it. Just because it's legal or acceptable to society doesn't mean the Church has to allow it - same as with drinking alcohol or coffee.

. . . without BYU risking losing federal dollars for that program?

Don't know if BYU wants to go there.

The PR would be, like, you know, awful.

This is going to influence the opposition number eight in California. Who is on the lord's side who, now is the time to show.
