My uncle Reed (ETB's oldest child) warned me against being set up and entrapped by agents of the Devil, by recounting an incident involving ETB and a potentially career-ending restroom experience (a close encounter of the worst kind, if you will), that my grandfather advisedly acted to avoid.

Reed told me that when ETB was Secretary of Agriculture and out on a road trip, he was in a hotel where he received a phone call to his room from a woman claiming that there was a bat in the ladies restroom and asking if he would please go into the restroom and remove the furry winged creature.

ETB refused, suspicious that the request might be a fake story designed by his political enemies to draw him into a comprising situation where he would have to explain to the press why he was found in a women's bathroom in a hotel away from home.

The moral of the story: Of the evil ones beware, who lie in wait to ensnare.

With today's GOP it's Larry Craig in the men's room.
