Everytime we would go do baptisms for the dead I would have to lie to get my temple reccomend. No way was I going to be the only unworthy youth shamed and embarrassed. Although many of my peers lied too. We would speculate as to whether the dead dunking counted or not if we were unworthy.

By the time my younger daughter was in her late teens/early twentys I was mentally out, but I kept paying tithing and playing the game because I knew she would be marrying soon and I wanted to there. I figured that the cost of my attendance at her wedding was thousands of dollars. At my interviews I lied and said 'yes' to the testimony and sustain the leaders questions. (I was keeping all the other commandments, so there was no issue there.) I figured my lie was a lesser lie than the lies that TSCC lived by.

I did as a youth from ages 12-16 when we were doing baptisms for the dead. I was masturbating and always said I wasn't. Then I finally confessed when I was 16 and I basically stopped until I was 22. I think I did 1 time when I was 18 or 19 and I confessed after that too. I don't have a lot of anger with the church most of the time but when I think about this I do have a little bit of anger. I never lied about it as an adult because I took it so seriously. I won't let any TBM ever tell me I didn't ever really believe in the church or didn't really have a testimony. I was dedicated to it 100%.

P.S. I never had a reason to lie. I was a good little mormon girl--I lived in fear of having to confess to a bishop so I lived accordingly.

I lied a couple of times about the WoW. I used to drink coffee to get through night shifts and felt perfectly justified doing it.

Oh yeah, I've done that, my interview to go through for my own endowments basically went like this:

SP/BP: Do you live the law of chastity?
Me: Yep, sure do! (thinking: except 2 nights ago when my fiance and I had sex... and the week before that...)

LOL

At one point I think I lied about 6 of the questions - the first three were lies and then it went from there...

I don't remember getting interviewed before I participated in dead dunking but I imagine I bent the truth a tad.

I never wanted a temple reccomend, I didn't wanna give them the chance to ask me why I haven't taken out my endowments. (I didn't wanna wear mormon underwear! I wasn't even aware of the green aprons and baker hats death oaths ect...) I guess they thought 25 was pretty old to still be single. I overheard some of the other "old maids" that they were encouraged to go to the temple and take out endowments if the weren't marrried by 25, no later than 26.

I thought that is BS. I really like the underwear I wear. Lessons would be about the only way to get to the CK was to get your endowments out. So I rationalized it as the only way to get to heaven is you have to wear mormon underwear.

I thought really?? I'm 37 now and still wear underwear for the sinners, Hanes. I'm so glad my BS dectector went off before I made those serious mistakes that traumatize people. the temple YIKES!!!!!!

I'm thrilled that the only temple ceremony I did was baptisms for the dead, I hear you on that one.

I did to go do baptisms for the dead. Being a teenager I liked porn. During the baptisms for the dead I got a bloody nose in the water and they had to get me out of the water. I thought it was God punishing me for being unworthy.

I remember my dead dunking session turning into a water fight...until the "party pooper" elder put a stop to all the merriment...bummer!

Do you have faith in and a testimony of God the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost?

Lied about this one

Do you have a testimony of the Atonement of Christ and of His role as Savior and Redeemer?

and this one

Do you have a testimony of the restoration of the gospel in these the latter days?

and this one

Do you sustain the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the Prophet, Seer, and Revelator and as the only person on the earth who possesses and is authorized to exercise all priesthood keys?

oh come on

Do you sustain members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators? Do you sustain the other General Authorities and local authorities of the Church?

throw a dog a bone here

Do you live the law of chastity?

do you?

Is there anything in your conduct relating to members of your family that is not in harmony with the teachings of the Church?

have you ever had brothers?

Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

do the Cowboys count? because they play on Sunday

Do you strive to keep the covenants you have made, to attend your sacrament and other meetings, and to keep your life in harmony with the laws and commandments of the gospel?

so many things to screw up with

Are you honest in your dealings with your fellowmen?

i just said yes to the last question so i might as well lie again

Are you a full-tithe payer?

define full?

Do your keep the Word of Wisdom?

i had a hamburger just before this interview so yes.

Do you have financial or other obligations to a former spouse or children? If yes, are you current in meeting those obligations?

at last something i can be honest about

If you have previously received your temple endowment: Do you keep the covenants that you made in the temple? Do you wear the garment both night and day as instructed in the endowment and in accordance with the covenant you made in the temple?

if your asking if i shower with them on than the answer is yes.

Huh. Now that you list out all the interview questions, I realize I've lied on almost every single one! Thats interesting. I never actually felt very bad about it, either, even when I was TBM. I guess I just never took the Mormon church that seriously.

I did feel guilty when I actually went to the temple, though. I thought I was the only person there who was unworthy, which is, I now realize, complete BS! Of course, with all the weird, creepy stuff that goes on in there, I was more than happy to avoid it all anyway!

"Do you have financial or other obligations to a former spouse or children? If yes, are you current in meeting those obligations?"

"If you have previously received your temple endowment: Do you keep the covenants that you made in the temple? Do you wear the garment both night and day as instructed in the endowment and in accordance with the covenant you made in the temple?"

If you answer yes to the first one how can you answer yes to the second if you are divorced?

I don't remember if I lied or not to get there, but they had us at the temple at 6 a.m and the old bastard directing the affair wouldn't let us sleep while we waited to go in (there was about a 30 min. wait for some reason) or put our hands in our pockets. (Apparently, hands in pockets was disrespectful to the Lord and his house.)

No, I didn't lie to get a temple recommend, but I lied when I presented it to get into the temple for the last time. I knew the church was a fraud but I still wanted to say goodbye to the temple. When we raised our hands to the square to say, yes, I said, no, under my breath. I just wanted to say goodbye and was able to do so by lying.

Yes and No.

First it depends on what level of self interpretation is allowed. I was never specifically asked if I masturbated. I knew the bishop didn't want me to and I knew that I didn't really believe that I shouldn't. I felt I was living the law of chastity even with masturbation.

A very good friend was getting married. I told this friend that I didn't have a reccomend and wouldn't be going to the temple. I was a big time doubter by then and hadn't paid tithing. My friend asked me to lie to get it, so I blatantly lied. After that reccomend I lied on other interviews.

Thing is, I value truth. I probably tell the truth more than I should. I feel uncomfortable telling white lies to spare hurt feelings. My friends trust me because I am consistently truthful. I didn't feel bad about lying to get to the temple.

I never lasted that long, as I was an adult convert. On the other hand, I did confess to not being a virgin as I wasn't married at the time, but I never said that my TBM ex and I were having premarital sex. I know he lied about the chastity thing as well since he was the one to actually baptize me. I like to think that the baptism wasn't really valid because he lied.

Ah what the hell. I was addicted to chewing tobacco when I got married, lied about it. Not only lied about it but actually took skoal bandits into the temple on my wedding day because it was gonna be a long day and I was gonna need it.

I think a majority of those who get 'temple recommends' lie in their interviews. It's how you present yourself to others that counts, not what you really believe.

LDS Inc LOVES hypocrites.

During the event, the chandelier started to shake and he thought it was God recognizing his lies. Totally freaked him out!

Then he found out the chandelier shook whenever someone upstairs closed a certain door.

Yes. I told them I did not masturbate. Same with PPIs to see if I was worthy to be a missionary.
