I don't know the full story, but this young man on YouTube was apparently a former atheist who joined the LDS church. He recently made a video (below) highlighting his desire to leave the church and remain a biblical Christian. If you feel so inclined, feel free to send him a message of your support. From what I understand from some of my acquaintances, he might really appreciate it.
