The best Mormon scholars (how's that for an oxymormon?) now say that there were two Cumorahs. The one in New York is the Cumorah where Moroni buried the plates so that Joseph could find them. That's also the Cumorah that Brigham Young saw in a vision with the huge cavern filled with "wagonloads" of records and a table with the Sword of Laban on it.
But since all of the main events of the Book of Mormon took place only in an area in Central America a few hundreds of miles across, the Cumorah where the great last battle took place must be around there, and that's the one they cannot locate definitely.
Not cult-think at all, once you accept the Book of Mormon as divinely inspired history.
They are lying to you or they are apostates. They should be denied temple recommends since by saying this they are making the implicit claim that Smith was not a prophet.
And yes I am saying that most of the people at farms and the fairies are apostates.
How do they get away with it? Hey no one ever said mormonism made any sense. ;-P
