I know that Raptor, runtu and anointed one have written books.

I've read RJ's, partway finished with AO's and I'll try to get ahold of runtu's after (is it on kindle? I forgot to write down the name).

Any that I'm missing?

I guess AO isn't an "exmo", but y'all know what I mean ;)

You could probably write a dumbed down version of that, for people who are not academics, and sell a few copies.

Wow. I actually would be interested in reading that...

Mine is out of print.

Robert Jay Lifton's "Nazi Doctors" covers pretty the same ground.

Lifton is a very good author and a great researcher...

I like to give a shout-out to Bill Shunn every once in a while. I don't know if he's ever posted here, but he's a terrific and widely published ex-Mormon writer, mostly of science fiction.

He's done a few other things as well, such as the summary of the temple film for the Internet Movie Database. But his magnum opus to date is "The Accidental Terrorist," a screamingly funny and true memoir about how he was deported from Canada during his mission after being jailed for terrorism. I understand that this incident has become somewhat famous in missionary lore.

The book has not been published yet, but he reads the whole thing in a series of podcasts on his website: http://www.shunn.net/podcast/

I'm not sure if that's the entire title.

Portals of the Night by Dennis Farley

Zion's Darkness: Where Faith Takes a Fatal Turn by Lawrence Pratt.

Both available on Amazon.

Don't forget Arza Evan's book, The Keystone of Mormonism. (Nonfiction.)

I'm sure there are many more, but it's getting late . . .

The Pattern of The Double-Bind in Mormonism
by Marion Stricker http://www.exmormon.org/pattern/index.htm

From the Publisher
How does one summarize a convoluted Pattern that defies common sense? Perhaps, that says it. The Pattern of The Double-Bind is a convoluted, insidious stratagem that turns our mental and emotional common sense world upside down. It is a circular pattern that ends in a vortex of depression and possible suicide.

This book is the culmination of a twenty-year odyssey, a personal quest for a solution to an unknown problem that had become emotionally and intellectually intolerable for the author. What she found through trial and error, following threads and connections, was a pattern of behavior that she finally identified and named The Pattern of The Double-Bind. She first discovered it in her Mormon marriage, and then in Mormonism itself.

Part I describes The Nature of The Pattern and The Double-Bind; it defines and gives examples of what The Pattern is, how it is used in different stages - and what results are incurred in each stage. Parts II and III present personal experiences of The Pattern in the lives of former members of the Mormon church. The last section, Part IV, gives a Summary of The Pattern and its antidote ... in How to Free Oneself from The Pattern.

Steve Lee (esteban) self-published a book "Falling Into Life: A Gay Exmormon's Journey." Here's a link: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1369456

He also did one of the "I Am an Ex-Mormon" videos:

I loved Lyndon Lamborn's "Standing For Something More" He was another one who took his excommunication public when church leaders said they were going to announce his apostasy at local and stake meetings. I couldn't put it down.

chanson doesn't post here often but she wrote a novel titled "ex-mormon".

Also, Natalie R Collins has written and published lots of novels. She would be an exmormon if they would take her name off the rolls....she writes at the trapped by the mormons blog.

Julieann Carter-Winward (sp) has also written lots of books. She has a blog as well.

It's mainly about my epic internet romance disaster and, more importantly, what I learned from it. It's called "You Can Smile Now (You're Rid of this A**hole)." That's the last thing the scumbag said to me, and maybe the only thing he ever said that was true.

I never thought of myself as the kind of person who'd get conned and stuck in an abusive relationship, but I did and was nearly ruined. I wrote most the book right after it ended in 2000, then spent a lot of time rewriting and trying to get it published the traditional way. Got a lot of interest and some great feedback. Except for occasional tinkering, it's been sitting since 2003.

I talk a lot about my Mormon upbringing and how that played in, and am beefing that up in the final edit.

I'm still working on mine. Had to take a vacation from it for a while after a spell of working with a database of 500 names from a list from the early 1840's. Today I just got some more information for that chapter.

Got a whole bunch of new material.

" the final edit." LOL what is that? Just for saying that, you will be sentenced to four more edits. A writer's work is never done.

So unless you're really into programming 3D computer graphics, you can safely ignore mine :)

I think this exmo wants to stay incognito. The book is Free Electricity by Ryan Rhodes. It is a novel centering on the electro-shock therapy on the gay kids at BYU. It also includes the life story of BIC mission, the whole Mormon experience in depth. It is a very emotional read but also very funny.
