It's funny, because I was nine years old in 1981 and I remember how "special" shows like this would always come on during the holidays. If it wasn't the Osmonds, it was the Carpenters or some other act. I didn't see this when it originally aired, but it's funny to watch now... The kids all look very well trained and most of the wives look like they're being dutiful... and Marie Osmond's got a Scarlett O'Hara sized waist. I had forgotten how yucky fashions of the early 80s were, too...
Lol at Marie's hair and dress! Jimmy looks so cute with his fluffy 80's hair.
I met Donny's wife one time at a pampered chef party. Probably one of the snobbiest people I've ever encountered. You could freeze ice on her ass no doubt.
That's Lorna Patterson. She was on Airplane! and the Private Benjamin television series that aired in 1981-82.
ETA: I believe she's Jewish.
The Osmond with the cute little girl was Wayne. That was his daughter, Amy. She is now a professor at Arizona State University and has four kids of her own with another on the way.

Wayne's the one with the tool-shopping problem. I remember Lorna Patterson, but I'm not sure why. Now we know what Madonna would have looked like as a Mormon.
I have a family just like this, who loves music but is so very TBM. It kind of feels a little mind numbing to get together with them and sing now. I can't do it anymore.
Just liket he Osmonds, they are all way too, well, robotic. It doesn't feel natural.
I was in high school when Luke and Laura were the big thing on General Hospital. The whole story line was that Laura was married to Scotty. Then she met Luke. One night at a night club owned by Richard Simmons (yes, its true) Luke raped Laura on the floor. There was a huge controversy about the whole rape scene. And because, worse of all, months later Laura falls in love with Luke her rapist! And she leaves Scotty to be with Luke.
The "Luke" actor then goes on Donny and Marie. No one knew him from any other show than Luke the General Hospital rapist. I cannot for the life of me understand it except if maybe the Osmonds were so naive they didn't follow the General Hospital story line and didn't know why he was so famous.
I am happy to report that I know at least one of those bored-looking children is now a non-believer, though for obvious reasons s/he cannot be open about it.
