I love Thomas Payne. While I was searching for one of my favorite quotes of his, I found a cool website:

I think I liked that one because I decided I didn't pretend to believe. Rather than believing the negative label of "apostate" or "infidel", I realized that I was showing character by leaving. So many people in the church, particularly in Utah, just pretend to believe.

That quote from the Dali Lama reminded me of Thomas Paine's quote about his own mind being his own church.

This one is particularly profound. I think it needs to be laminated on my fridge.

+1 to this Buddha quote ... I remember noting this particular one while still working my way out of TSCC.

It is now laminated and on my fridge. I was not kidding! I own a laminator and all other manner of crafty stuff and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Yes, I do love it and it tangibly helped me leave the church.

It's almost like it was written for that purpose. And, if I'm not mistaken, about the same time Lehi left Jerusalem, give or take.
