This is a spinoff from my other topic right now about Mormon history.

Due to "the Mormon moment", many Romney supporters have started defending the LDS church.

They believe (as many exmos do) that Romney would be able to seperate his beliefs from the position of presidency, and these well-intentioned people defend the LDS church in many of the same ways that members do.

This isn't a political thread. I'm just talking about people who never even thought about Mormons before are now saying things like "leave the LDS church alone, they are no different from other churches" or "every religion has skeletons in their closet".

My catholic in-laws do this anytime I talk about how the LDS church lied to me. People on a debate board run to the defense of the church whenever the subject arises.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I can't even confront the lies before someone just calls me an asshole for being nitpicky...

I was visiting my DD last week and one of her neighbors had a "Catholics for Romney" bumper sticker on their car. Are you kidding me? I wanted to run over and inform them of what Romney's church teaches about theirs.

What bothers me is that I've heard a number of TV hosts speak glowingly of the church (and Mitt) being abundantly charitable to the needy whenever they get into a discussion about Mitt's tithing, saying it goes to the poor or to the community, when, according to my understanding, that's not where tithing money goes.

A girl I work with, who is an ex-Mo, told me she has no problem voting for Romney. She went on to comment on how Mormons are really nice people. I did NOT want to get into a heated debate with her, but found myself wanting to bang my head against the wall. I don't believe she knows a lot of the sordid, dark history of the church, nor does she care to know.

Apart from THAT, I am frustrated that more people don't investigate this religion of Romney's. On the liberal station I listen to, they started to talk about the "White Horse Prophecy" and then stopped. I was DYING for them to elaborate and inform the listeners. I got a very strong feeling that there is a line they are not allowed to cross over.

I've heard them stop short on the prophecy several times, as well; it's clearly deliberate. One host who did so a couple of days ago was also quick to add that modern day Mormons don't believe in it a all.

He is mormon TBM style.

It's not about loving or caring about people. It's about control of people. About making, securing money for the wealthy buddies. Just like the TSCC. Look at the TBM people you know. Now put them into a position of power, no matter how small. What will influence their decision making on any topic? think of the TBM's you know and answer that question. Now, think of Romney in this position............ there is your answer.

Sure has not happened to me. I am not on any other internet chat boards so my interactions are all live with friends, acquaintances, or friends of friends. I am an overly honest person and even if I wasn't, people just seem to believe whatever I tell them. I NEVER embellish. I I never lie about the church. (We don't need to.)

I have had several conversations about the church because of Romney. I come out guns blazing with the most abhorrent parts of mormonism. Many already know about some crazy things. They bring up the Kolob thing often. I love to share the "Law of Consecration". It IS socialism which Americans in general, and conservatives especially, are against. Thye don't know what to say about it. They ask, "Isn't that just charity?" Nope! You give EVERYTHING to the church/ government at some point in the future, and they deal it back out as they want.

I think that if I saw Romeny elected versus anyone I know join mormonism, I rather see him as president. As such, I ALWAYS finish the conversation with saying that as weird as the church is, I don't think it a reason to not vote for Romney on its own. It IS a reason to stay away from mormons and to NOT be a mormon. I also tell them to please re-contact me if they ever let missionaries into their house.

It just really sucks that among the general population, it has become PC to defend TSCC.
