1) This a.m. at my kids school overheard three LDS women were discussing the church policy on two adults of the opposite sex being in the same room:

"What does the church say?" "They say you can be in the same room but you can't shut the door" "That's why you can't have a non-married couple teach together ... because they might shut the door or they might get together to plan their lessons." "But you can't have a married couple teach because they would cover for each other if one did something inappropriate." "Well, the CHURCH says ..."

OK, apparently grown @ss adults can't control themselves for two seconds behind a closed door without ripping the other person's clothes off. And it only matters what the church says.

2) This afternoon - my BIL visiting for Thanksgiving "Yeah, my neighbor in Texas called Mormonism a cult on radio during the election so now I call him "brother" Jones." "Why?" "Because when he got on the radio and bad-mouthed Mormonism, so many people got on the church's website to see what Mormonism was really about, they crashed the website." SIL (his wife) "Yep, any time anyone bad-mouths the church on TV, the missionaries are busy for weeks."

I wanted to ask him to prove it but didn't feel like mixing it up with him. This is an old, old faith-promoting lie.

3) This evening - son (16) asked an LDS girl he knows (also 16) to go for a walk with him to outline a school charity drive. They are on the same committee at their high school and were going to walk around HER neighborhood to brainstorm ideas. Her parents are very reactionary Mormon and son thought if he invited her over or invited himself to her house, they might not approve. But a walk would be public. Nope, they said the two of them (who, granted kinda like each other but have never even been on a date) HAD to invite other kids from the committee to go on their walk. No way could two 16 year olds go for a walk alone. They probably know my son is inactive but he still hangs out with a mixed group of LDS/non-LDS kids who are all friends. They've even hung out at her house before.

Anyway, just had to get all that off my chest before I screamed. It's way, way too much Mormon stupidity for one 24 hour period.

#2 is something I see sometimes in on-line forums where the church is discussed. Inevitably someone will post something critical of the church, and on occasion a TBM poster (usually when losing an argument) will throw out "I am so glad you are posting things critical of God's true church. Every time you do, people are drawn to learn more about the Gospel."

Hogwash.

Well, in my case it was true. Someone said something critical of the church and it prompted me to learn more about the gospel and church history. A few days later I lost my belief.

This was not in the last 24 hours, but I can't stop thinking about how stupid and arrogant it is. Someone I know posted this on Facebook:

"How do YOU tell others Jesus is in-fact Mormon. He is Latter Day Saint...."

Sithlord responded : "I personally would never do that because it would be very offensive to someone outside of the church."

Ridiculous poster responded: "True, but LDS believe we're the only church true church, right? We don't apologize for that statement which is quite bold in my opinion, yet it is 100% true. It is also true that Christ leads the church through a living prophet, who is Mormon, so essentially the Savior is Mormon. I discussed this with the missionaries today. Christ leads the church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, therefore he is the leader of our team, and the most divine member of the church, He and the Father. That's what I should have testified to my friend. We were talking whether or not Jesus drinks coffee lol, I said I know He doesn't because He is Mormon."

So Jesus didn't drink coffee...what about wine?

It was just grape juice. Sithlord got in a huge debate with this person. She refused to back down, regardless of the offensiveness of her narrow misconceptions.

The grape juice thing always busts me up, and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to disprove it. According to biblical scholars, Jesus was crucified in the spring, probably early April. The grape harvest in the Middle East generally ends in September. Jesus drank wine at the last supper. Without refrigeration/freezers, how did they keep fresh grape juice for over 6 months?

Right. They had to ferment it.

Everyone drank alcoholic beverages, including children. It was unsafe to drink water as it was often the cause of disease.

I've had the same problem with Santa Claus. I mean, the guy's white. Look at all the pictures of him. I'm sorry if that offends people of color. He's white, that's the truth, and I should have the courage to come right out and say so.

Really. You make up a Jesus, a savior, to be just like you and then you proclaim that it takes courage to say so? Because, supposedly, it takes courage to hurt people's feelings with your bigotry? What it takes is laughable arrogance and an inability to self-reflect.

Or was it cultivated alongside olive trees and I just never noticed it...

Muslim Jesus would strap on a bomb vest or cut off a man's head for Jihad.

Mormon Jesus would have Nephi cut off a man's head with a sword.

Very similar core beliefs...

Two TBMs were having a conversation about whether or not Jesus drinks coffee? Seriously?!?!?

Clearly, these people have too much time on their hands. They need to do their HT/VTing, or help someone move, or clean toilets at the stake center. Sheesh.

I think it was a TBM and her nonmo friend. She thinks it's good missionary work to tell everyone Jesus is Mormon.

I don't understand how someone who was tooling around on earth thousands of years ago can be a Latter Day Saint, or a follower of a prophet who was born after he left.

Point of clarification:

1. The "CHURCH" doesn't say anything...the old white guys in charge of the church say things. If you think the church talks to you you are delusional.

When Jesus was around there was no coffee to drink! Check the history of coffee. Not known until the sixteenth century A.D. However, since I don't think we are totally disembodied in heaven, perhaps we get to drink coffee there .... with Jesus. But, perhaps, TBMs won't get to see this.

Uh...for #3...why couldn't they (the 2 of them or the "committee") do this logistical stuff at school? Also...why didn't the mormon parents have your son and their daughter just go over to their house so they could monitor?? It's called PARENTING!!!!

My nonmo son has a GF who is mormon (or her family is, whatever)...She comes over here sometimes. They can have their "space" outside so they can talk and whatever...but when they are in my basement....I m-o-n-i-t-e-r them. I am just as concerned for her as I am for my son...Sometimes his little brother helps to monitor them too.

They could do the stuff at school but they wanted to get together after school and hang out - they are friends. I think it would have been fine to hang out at our house or theirs but it would have seemed like a "date" to the Mormon parents so my son thought a walk would sound kinda harmless - I mean, they'd be out in public. They probably will just wait til next week then hang around after school working stuff out - it's not something that requires everyone - just something the two of them were assigned to do. I can't see how being at school is better than being in our family room or walking around a neighborhood where everyone knows them but that wasn't the point.

The point is, they are 16 and the attitude that every time someone turns their back or any time two LDS members of opposite sexes are alone in a room, they will get it on like a couple of bunnies, is so messed up. Even if they are teenagers.

Be vewwy, vewwy quiet. Satan's hunting teenagers. In these latter days, TheAdversary doesn't just rule the waters; he's taken over the parks.

The problem with a walk during the day is they might encounter a tree with a really big trunk and branches that create shade aka "dim lighting." Every Mormon knows who is lurking in all variations of the dark.

CA Girl, you never fail to bring it with your stories of Mormon encounters.

As far as the situation with your son, I think you should thank the girl's parents for letting you know she can't be trusted around the opposite sex.

It's aspect of Mormon culture makes me sick, in my opinion it is what drives the pornography issue and loneliness issue at that church. Men and women are segregated, unable to make or maintain trusting relationships with anyone from the opposite sex. Dorms at BYU are for "boys" or "girls" not for men and women. Everyone is segregated, unable to learn anything about the opposite sex, other than they are magical and perfect as long as they are Mormons. Then they unleash them on each other and they are married so fast that that cannot determine and set important relationship boundaries and feelings that only come from the natural exposure to the person.

My son is treated the exact same way. H is not allowed to talk, TALK to a girl because he is not 16 yet, they are not to even make eye contact at church, because the more extreme and judgmental you are, the better person you are.

Of course, reading it confirms that old skins are swollen from fermentation and become weak.

I can't recall the scripture reference but will find it later - I just had to mention it at this point.

I'm at a loss to imagine how Laban got drunk on grape juice anyway. He might have kept his head if he'd offered some grape juice to share.

I'm always really confused at the grown (and I mean grown, middle aged at least) women who give pre-teen shout-outs to their husbands on facebook. Someone on facebook today, as part of their November daily thanks thing, has this to say about her husband:

"Today I am thankful to be a wife to the greatest husband ever! (Name removed) you are an amazing man and I am so glad we get to spend eternity together, thanks for all you do for our family. I love you tons!!!!!"

Of all of the things one could say about being thankful for their spouse, that's it?

I hate that too! Seems like women are always bragging about how wonderful their husbands are. But it's done in a way not to show thanks but to show off.

Interesting because when the church came after us editors at Mormonthink, it blasted visits at our site and increased emails of people who were just learning about the truth of the church. And, yes, we do have evidence.

See the "Milestone" sections under http://www.mormonthink.com/whatsnew.htm

Some more stats will be posted on the site soon.
