This is a very new group in Calgary which grew out of a desire for the community which comes with a church, but without the pesky religion part. I keep meaning to go, but haven't yet. I know there are a few Calgarians on the board, so I thought I'd post the info for anyone who's interested.

I attended the Ethical Culture society in D.C. for a few months--found it pretty dry. When I moved back to SLC, found a more congenial home with UU First Church.

It's an interesting idea, and taps into the need that many people (me included) have for a social outlet. I might drop into one of their pub nights first.

Social aspects? I'll hang with people that enjoy doing the same thing as I do, not going and sleep through a fake service.

Ethical guidance? Who is to say that "church" knows any thing better than I? There is a huge source of data and teachings on Ethics that I have at my disposal, why go and listen to what someone else thinks is important? I will decide for myself.

Instant friends? No thanks.

The one thing I don't need is anything that calls itself a "church"!

That def fits Xtianity more than it fits "atheism." LOL!

What is really telling is that you feel the need to compare Christianity to Islam in order to make Christianity look good!
