Saw this posted on FB today, loved it and wanted to share:
I believe in the traditional biblical marriage: One man and his sister one man and his dead brother's wife one man and one woman and her servants one man and his rape victim one man and many women one man and 700 women and 300 concubines one man and one woman and her slaves one soldier and his virgin prisoners
Just not one man and one man. THAT would be immoral.
While I believe the Bible is whack in general, I *especially* believe that constantly trying to apply it to our modern lives is borderline mental deficient.
Yet time & time again, people use it as the end-all-be-all rationale behind their action.
Hi. It isn't the BIBLE that's whacky; it's human beings. Always tying themselves up in knots. The BIBLE has a lot of good stuff, but it's not meant to be used to beat up our neighbors. Personally, I don't believe there were ever any 'good old days' for people ingeneral. I thought the fifties were pretty awful.
A lot of that list is redundant, and it should include Lot's daughters, even if that wasn't officially marriage. I would revise it to:
One man and his sister One man and his two daughters one man and his dead brother's wife one man and his wife's servants one man and his wife's slaves one man and his rape victim one man and 700 women and 300 concubines one soldier and his virgin prisoners
THAT is awesome! I decided to get my MIL "A year of Biblical Womanhood" for xmas, as a kind of hint hint that there are a lot of things it says in the Bible that Mormons don't follow at all.......
That's great! It would be great to have chaper and verse to put after each one so folks can look it up themselves. I'm sure that some won't believe it.
One man and his sister - (Genesis 20:12) One man and his dead brothers wife - (Deuteronomy 25:5) One man and his rape victim - (Deuteronomy 22:28-29) One man and many women - (Samuel 5:13) One man and 700 women and 300 concubines - (Kings 11:3) One man and one woman and her slaves - (Exodus 21:7-11) One soldier and his virgin prisoners - (Deuteronomy 21:11-13)

Paul and Christianity screwed it up. The original commandment is not to commit adultery, or cheating behind a partner's back, which is just common sense. Adultery is emotionally painful. It's a great line drawn in the sand and quite simple to understand. Man mucked it up.
