He told me that a day after he had visited a sporting-event at an arena. There were bars all around the place, and people were sitting in the sun drinking beer.

They were fed like pigs he said.

Is that the opinion of a friendly and caring man?

As a beer drinker myself, I can only concur :-)

I take offence. Why would anyone accept being called a pig?

A great quote from "The Magnificent Seven:"

If God didn't want them sheared, he would not have made them sheep.

So shear them!

I find it more offensive that someone would be offended by this.

Let's see, the Japanese feed beer to Kobe beef cattle and it's a good thing. Maybe I should raise some hogs, feed them beer, give 'em a massage once in awhile and then sell them for 500 bucks a pound...anyone interested? LOL

I cooked a pork roast last night and it was delicious...if y'all wanna eat 'em, y'all gotta feed 'em...never thought of feeding mine beer, but I'm sure they would have loved it...

Speaking of pork, my city is a week or two ahead of the rest of the USA for the seasonal McRib, a pork BBQ sandwich.

I expected it would be tough and chewy, but it melted in the mouth like butter.

I remember Arnold; he spoke in subtitles. He was a little smarter than Ebb, who once said, "Mrs Douglas makes the best hot water soup in the valley."

People are making cute and clever comments--and some of them are cute and clever--but I get what you're saying.

Some of those paragons of Christian love can't, in all their righteousness, stop judging and hating-on other people. There is nothing "christlike" about their behavior but they are the first to beat others up with their I'm-so-much-better-than-you-unchristian-heathens stick.

As a reformed Presbyterian (often considered the drunkards in the Christian circles)... I can assure you the bible doesn't preach the baptist view on drinking...

Actually Jesus was called a drunkard in the Gospels. We do know John the Baptist abstained from drinking... but we know that because Jesus essentially (paraphrasing the concept) points out you mocked John for not drinking... mock me for being a drunkard... so which is it.

Of course... Jesus's first miracle? Producing likely the best wine ever served on this earth at a wedding.... a wedding which was already well into the booze drinking process because they were all commenting on how they wish the best wine would have been served before all the previous wine (basically prebuzz).

Lastly... to those that hold the grape juice position... tell me how long would non pasteurized grape juice last before serving if that's all that was being served... I'll give you a hint.... not long enough to bother.

1. Jesus was called a wine-bibber (KJV) not a drunkard. At Pentacost the disciples were thought to be drunk, however, by some who were listening.
2. The Westminster Confession speaks against alcohol by encouraging abstinance.
3. The referennce to pigs may be appropriate if one is looking at a group of men with potbellies gulping down beers. However, this only refers to such a group and not to those who drink an occasional glass of suds.

I am aware of quite of few men who are referred to as Pigs, who don't drink

a better qualifier is indicated

It is his opinion, which he is entitled to, of course.

One might describe his congregation as pigs being lectured to by a braying ass, but that would be rude, wouldn't it? ;o))

I'd rather be a pig than a sheep, if I had to make that choice. Pigs are smarter, omnivorous and overall better survivors. An old agnostic cowboy I once knew referred to baptism as "getting sheep-dipped."

It would make an interesting study to determine the percentage of beer drinkers who look like pigs and the percentage of beer sales to that group.
