Sorry - I know most people over the age of 50 on here also accept evolution. I didn't mean to imply that no one over that age is smart enough to believe in evolution.

Wish I understood evolution more. I think the real debate that has been going on here is the difference between macro and micro evolution. It seems to me that creationists are more likely to accept micro evolution, yet disagree with the idea of "common descent". They use time as a large factor in arguing their case and claiming evolution over such a period is not testable.
Anyways, 28 and believe in something I don't fully understand, evolution.
When I grew up under David O McKay, evolution was openly approved. I think there are far more conservative people in the church now than there were back then.
The church correlated everything. Mormons are forced to accept the company line now, where as before you were free to speculate as long as you weren't McConkie.
She goes to a local private Baptist school though, so it's probably not her fault she doesn't have a basic grasp of science.
She was spewing the same crap about "faith in evolution" an that kind of nonsense. I feel bad for her because she seems like a bright girl, but she's young and has time to fix her misconceptions of reality.

The people that I have met that argue for creationism were simply, not very bright, deeply involved in their church, and not well educated. From recent posts, I would say that some are disturbed individuals seeking attention and/or confrontation.
Interesting it appears that age, education and religiosity are all fairly strong indicators.
I suspect that with Mormons that age is a stronger indicator however. From what I've seen the Mormon culture has largely embraced evolution in the last 20-30 years.
