Although I was a pretty solid TBM for most of my life, there must have been some doubts in my teenage mind, because I remember getting into an argument about polygamy in school, when a kid accused Joseph Smith and Mormons of practicing bigamy. I stopped him, looked him in the eyes and said, "Joseph Smith did not practice bigamy. Bigamy is when you have two wives. Joseph Smith practiced polygamy which is when you had way more then that. That is also true for most of the old Mormons, but we don't do that anymore." Everyone laughed, and agreed to drop the subject.

I can't believe I thought that was ever okay, but then again I was just a dumb kid.

I couldn't tell you how disappointed when I joined and found out polygamy was no longer practiced. What a ******* gyp.

Spring city second ward is majority polygamist. They have temple recommends and leadership positions.

I inherited a house in spring city from my mother who told me the importance of the house being in the FIRST WARD north of center street. While there, I inquired, and yes it was confirmed to me that the Allred group is a majority in the town and controls a ward and the town government. (People were very cagey about it, did not admit to it unless you revealed you already knew.)

how weird. Thanks for speaking out. There is a person in my family with that same last name so it makes me wonder now.

If they're from Utah, ask. I asked a few people named Allred and there are stories.

I'm in the 'Allred Group'.

This must of been a long time ago. We no longer to attend LDS meetings.

Spring City is very close to one of our newer orders though, so I think your account could be valid at that time.

Seemed to be true in 2008.

Your "orders" are they listed someplace? Or is it "underground".

Three fifths. That's a good compromise.

The way he was going if Joseph Smith had lived another 15 years the Celestial Kingdom would've just been one big orgy. Pity.

----

Actually from what I read polygamy generally means that the wives know about each other and bigamy generally means that the wives don't know about each other.

Therefore, the argument could be made that Joseph Smith was also a bigamist ;)

Polyandry? Ahhh well, in your post-Mormon life, you can settle for being tag teamed. All the pleasure, none of the video games and toilet seats left up twice as often.

Mohamed is said to have said that the ideal was to have four wives, so they would be so busy fighting with each other, they would leave you in peace.

RS-ussy

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Post of the day!

You say you feel no emotion but surely you felt mirth when you posted that?

Haha, I should clarify- I can still feel anger and annoyance and other non-vulnerable emotions (for the most part)

It's mostly just the emotions associated with the crappy stuff in my childhood that have disappeared (fear, trust, love, etc...)

I'm sure they are still in there somewhere though, just massively suppressed.

Plus, I'm a master mimic ;)

sometimes I think about pioneer sex. How could anyone follow through? Think about how limited bathing and razors were. I guess if you didn't know anything else it would be okay. I still think about it though and wonder. Sorry, maybe this should be it's own thread lol

Yeah, I specifically try to NOT think about pioneer sex... or pretty much any sex before near-daily showering.

I think I have a hyper-active sense of smell though, so even just daily life before frequent showering would have been rough for me.

I remember on Little House on the Prairie, they would bathe maybe once every 7 days. Can you imagine? On the other hand, I have the hots for guys with dreadlocks. I don't know why.

As a young dumbs#i+, I remember telling a woman that she should be grateful to be wife #2,600,043 if she found a worthy man.
