OK, so even though I was born in the cove, I never jelled as a MO, even as a kid. I was a super rebellious teen...so it is not great surprise that I But I decided that I would absolutely identify myself as another religion...a strong religion that would leave no questions about my identity.

I decided to become reformed Jewish because: there was plenty of room for "interpretation", the family values were stronger than MOES, I liked the exotic nature of being in an old religion that had their own language and customs, and as a Jew I felt like no one could scoff at an ambivalence in me so they would leave me alone. (I know...the naivete of youth...It definitely didn't happen that way)

So many years later and lots and lots of living under the bridge... how should I have reacted to this statement coming from an old college friend?

"Now that you*re divorced...did you give up all the Jewish nonsense?"

REEELLYYY?

It does not require a response.
I would ignore any comment or question that is non-productive.
It's good information about the other person, however. Gives me some insight into their thinking which I can use as a basis of ignoring other like statements which are likely to occur.

I'd say something like...

"Did somebody fart? Oh... What? I can't hear you with our head shoved so firmly up your ass!"

But that's just me.

"WOW!! That was really rude and inappropriate. Do you understand why?...."

Use it as a teaching opportunity.

I've told mormons that they are being rude before.
