OK, so even though I was born in the cove, I never jelled as a MO, even as a kid. I was a super rebellious teen...so it is not great surprise that I But I decided that I would absolutely identify myself as another religion...a strong religion that would leave no questions about my identity.
I decided to become reformed Jewish because: there was plenty of room for "interpretation", the family values were stronger than MOES, I liked the exotic nature of being in an old religion that had their own language and customs, and as a Jew I felt like no one could scoff at an ambivalence in me so they would leave me alone. (I know...the naivete of youth...It definitely didn't happen that way)
So many years later and lots and lots of living under the bridge... how should I have reacted to this statement coming from an old college friend?
"Now that you*re divorced...did you give up all the Jewish nonsense?"
REEELLYYY?
