Adam (formerly Another Shrubbery) here.

I've been away for a while, but had to come back after this weekend. I spent the week with my angel son and ex-wife (whom I adore), and only had to hear one "conference" (who exactly are the pretending to "confer" with?) talk. It was while the ex was packing. We were in my parents house, and I overheard the whole vague diatriabe. A few observations.

1. This man is obviously a frustrated closet case. Period.

2. Ever noticed how these folks never list any support for their position. This jerk said several times that marriage has to stay between a man and woman or the whole world will perish. Really? Why? Anyone outside a fundamentalist cult who made such a claim would have to back it up. Give a REASON. And reading the entire Pro-crap-nation doesnt cut it. That

3. Every time he said sex needs to be between a man and his wife, he left open the possibility that polygamy is Gods law. As long as Mogod assigns a man many women, monogamy is not the law.

4. Instead of openly talking about any issue, he cowardly avoided explaining what he was talking about. At least Beck and Palin come out and say the word. This man has no balls. Hiding in office buildings and threatening damnation behind closed doors. That is the way to conduct God's church!

5. It struck me really hard that the man was bashing VOTING and the democratic process to change marriage when a) prop 8 was actually a VOTE meant to change the constitutional interpretation of a COURT. The effing mormon church is the one trying to set laws through a vote!!! Whatever happened to the constitution being perfect and complete just as it is??? If the judges, placed there by god (see JS writings on where govt comes from) interpreted the perfect constitution to provide equal rights to everyone, a VOTE TO CHANGE THAT is precisely the kind of vote you are condemning!!!

6. Instead of using the words "Gay" or "Homosexual," he continually said "unnatural." Really? Tell me something. If a man lives 20 years of his life trying to be attracted to women and just CANNOT do it (as is true for several of my best friends), is the "Natural" thing to do to form a bond without attraction? That is nonsense.

7. Finally, the topping on the shit cake was saying that "In the priesthood lies the power" to remove homosexuality and attraction to porn. Really? Then why do priesthood holders have the highest rates of porn use in America? This line, which he repeated constantly, was very telling of the fact that mormons learn to love and trust CHURCH, not God. Any Christian minister would have said GOD has power to relieve porn addiction (and, in my opinion, a real christian would have left his homophobia at home).

Imagine the frustation of the almost one million active members of that church when they report to bishops week after week to be "cured" of their sexuality, just to find that, Yep! the poor bastard has no training in anything and can only tell them to read the BM and pray! Utter bullshit. This one teaching really tore me up as a kid.

Damn you, Boyd.

Thank you for what you said.

You have NO IDEA how many blessings "we" had to "cure" him of being gay. I was SO SURE they had the power.

I remember fasting, praying endlessly and going for yet another blessing and feeling ZILCH. I remember what a big let down it was every time. Obviously--IT WAS MY FAULT.

It was someone on here who told me the definition of insanity "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."

Mormonism does not need to give reasons for doing or not doing anything. The leaders speak and the faithful obey. And if you try to look for a reason behind their pronouncements, even if you hold to Mormon teachings on human sexuality, you're just causing trouble.

It's a cult!

I seriously heart you.

Also, I heart your use of the phrase "shit cake".

Let's hug!

that the Power of the Priesthood <<guffaw>> is powerless to dispel even a head-cold.

There is thus no need to conjecture that it would have any power to redirect sexual orientation.
