The problem with Australia is that social conservatives have a strong hold there.

From what I've heard, the conservative clergy of the Anglican Communion has played an essential role in anti-gay movement.

Tony Abbott (the Mad Monk),will probably win the September federal election and is a staunch Catholic, so there will be no joy for the next 4 years at least.

There are too many religious wankers in politics who don't listen to the community and push their own agenda.

Gay people are completely accepted in the community, but it seems politicians who think they should marry haven't got the balls to stand up and be counted.

I think the only way we would get equality before the election is if the current government looked like it was going to easily win. Julia Gillard, our Prime Minister, is an atheist, but they're scared of a right-wing nut backlash.

It's too much of a hot potato right now. People hate Gillard because she lied and brought in a CO2 tax when she promised she wouldn't if she won.
