School is just about out (I might have scored my first A in math, ever!) so we're heading down to ABQ for a overnight trip.

Where do you suggest eating, visiting, staying? We're going to stop by the Acoma Sky Village on the way back, and that's the only thing planned so far.

This was my favorite restaurant when I lived in Albuquerque: http://www.sadiesofnewmexico.com/

Warning, the food is very spicy. Even if you can't get to that restaurant, you do need to try something with green chile in it. This is one thing New Mexico is famous for. Again, they are spicy so be prepared for the heat if you do try it.

As for places to visit, you may want to go to Old Town
http://www.albuquerqueoldtown.com/

Hope this helps.

She is not new to green chili or spicy food. After all, DENVER is the home of CHUBBY's.

I knew you could do it!

I never got an A in math until I was 42. It was a very good feeling. I felt like I could anything after that, because math is not my thing.

Congrats.

I've never been to Albuquerque.

Where to stay: Three decent sized casinos there, so room rates may better, plus Sandia has a good pool with pool-side bar. A very nice golf course if that interests you as well. Golf in general is good there. Paako Ridge is worth the drive up the hill just for lunch even if you don't golf.

What to do: Take the tram up to the top of Sandia Peak and hike about a bit. You can stay as long as you like and catch the last tram down. Bar/restaurant is ok up there, but spendy and popular on the weekends. You can get a drink and eat at the bar if nothing else. Great views.

You can hike the LaLuz trail up to the top and take the tram down as well. Bring your wallet though...it's not free. About 20 bucks I believe, but prices may have gone up a bit.

If you want to see some decent music check out the Alibi...local alternative paper with a music calendar. http://alibi.com/

Food: Ditto on the green chile recommendation above. Green chile chicken stew or green chile enchiladas are easy to find and lots of flavor. Green chile has a ton of flavor without being overly hot. Be sure to get a breakfast burrito on your way out of town....it will last you all day. Twisters (local chain) makes very good BB's. The Frontier Restaruant down on Central across from UNM is a perennial favorite....great late night spot after a night of partying. Heuvo Rancheros at 200am are mighty tasty:)

Other food spots to check out include El Pinto for average Mexican food in a fantastic setting down by the Rio Grande on 4th Steet (and not from from Sandia Casino); El Portale in Old Town, St Claires winery/restaraunt and finally, you cannot go wrong with Zinc, Seasons or Savoy. The last three are owned and operated by a family who know what they are doing. Savoy has an awesome patio and live music most nights, but nothing harsh/hard since it's more of an upscale (for ABQ) setting.

Things to do: Drive up to Madrid on State Highway 14 during the day to check out cool little artisan shops and coffee shops. 30 minute drive and you can stop into Molly's right of I-40 to see some real characters who live in the East Mountains. Good bands there too, but it's only open until 9pm, so get there early.

ABQ is a big place.....too much to list, but the Alibi is a good source for most of it. Safe travels!

Ooh! Go downtown! Waco Taco!!! They have the best tacos and Mexican food ever. It's a hole in the wall kind of place with license-plate decor, but AMAZING food.

There's also a really cool restored Egyptian Art Deco theater there.

I love ABQ. I used to have relatives there and would visit quite often. Sorry, I don't have any recommedations but I do remember that at nearly any fast food restaurant, you could ask to have green chili added to your food. Yum!

If you have kids, the Explora museum is great for them.

First, I love Albuquerque, and am overdue for a trip back. The eatery I liked best was in Old Town: La Hacienda. http://www.lahaciendanm.com/

For something unusual and interesting, check out the Rattlesnake Museum: http://www.rattlesnakes.com/. I also liked the zoo/horticultural center/biopark: http://www.cabq.gov/culturalservices/biopark/zoo.

Seconding the nomination of the petroglyph walk; it actually inspired one of my short stories in a 2011 anthology.

I lived on the west side near the petroglyphs. I agree they are worth visiting.

I lived in NM for 7 years and never made it to Frontier. Now you guys are making me wonder what I missed.

Just good, hot, quickly prepared breakfast items. Lots of green chile, eggs and gigantic cinnamon rolls fresh baked.

Like I said earlier, you really can't find a better place to stumble into at 200am before hitting the road. Ok, I'm j/k about that last part. Don't drink and drive!!

Oh, another cool part about the Frontier: Last remodel circa 1973, so if you dig red vinyl booths this is your spot:)

Isotopes Triple A baseball team (Dodgers farm club) has one of the best stadiums anywhere for that level. Good food, decent beer and well-played baseball.

If you have kids, there is a playground/jumpers/games on the hill overlooking right field...you don't miss an out while the kiddies are running off their sodas and cotton candy.

Check out the Dion's pizza and Blake's Lottaburger if you're not familiar. Very nice versions of both. Green chile cheeseburgers. Mmmm.

+1 on Dion's. I was a pizza chef there in the 80s. Their pizza sauce is the best I've ever tasted. We were not allowed to know the recipe, only the owners who would come in and make up giant batches of it every few days.

I could happily go to Albuquerque and eat every breakfast, lunch and dinner at Frontier just across from the UNM bookstore.

He agrees that it is a very colorful and fun place, but when it gets to be closing time (around two in the morning) there are a lot of mean, rowdy drunks. Leave before them if possible.

We love the Biopark, the Museum of Natural Science, and for food, our favorite is Papa Felipe's, on Menaul just east of Eubank.

Have a great time and welcome to our town.

I think you should eat an aubergine in Albuquerque for reasons of alliteration and poetry.

My folks live near ABQ and highly recommend Tucanos. It's a Brazilian buffet with specialties they bring around the tables, including a carmellized pineapple that is spectacular. They're also big fans of Bandalier National Monument, though I think it's a bit of a drive out of ABQ.
