The Supreme Court might settle nothing regarding Prop 8

They might toss the case, claiming Prop 8 defenders have no legal standing.

That would be a defacto victory

That would mean that two counties, which include the cities of LA and Oakland, could begin issuing marriage licenses in a few weeks. The governor and AG would inevitably allow all the counties to issue them.

It's not a clean victory, but it means that Prop 8 is dead and California again supports marriage equality.
