My friend just updated her cover to this...

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=384350464998381&set=a.338929589540469.60659.338926056207489&type=1

Really?

Nevermind the lives lost defending your freedom. In memory of your religion? your wives?

Granted, I don't have a clue about the scripture reference, because I don't give a damn.

It just rubbed me the wrong way.

I think you should come up with your own facebook cover. It would have a picture of golden plates and a flaming sword, and across the piture in huge, HUGE letters would be written "Joseph Lied."

Disgusting. If you read the passage and the ones just before it, it is clear that this is all a jab at apostates and anyone who disagrees with Mormons. Using the flag in this way is an insult to our beloved veterans everywhere. It is also an insult to everyone who believes in equal rights, since Mormons have to be forced to comply with basic human decency.

This is Mormon propaganda and is a salute to themselves, not to what the Fourth of July is all about, those who fought for freedom.

I commented. Couldn't help it.

"Confused. Isn't the flag a symbol of religious freedom?"

My husband is a disabled veteran. My father chose military service over a mission, and our family was treated like crap for it, and my grandfather was a WW2 hero.

This was the FB convo...

ME: Confused. Isn't the flag a symbol of religious freedom?

HER: Yep, what is confusing?

ME: I guess "in memory of" confuses me...we have freedom, religion, children...trying to reconcile the memory of things that still exist?

RANDOM TBM: The flag IS a symbol of freedom. God, religion, children and family used to be written boldly on the face of this great nation but they are under attack and fading fast. Without these, the flag is but a piece of fabric blowing in the breeze...

HER: Sorry Wendy, wasn't trying to be confusing. I like to look at the flag and be reminded of those freedoms. They don't feel as important in general society as they once did.

ME: My husband, father, and grandfather all served in different branches of the military. When I read "in memory of...freedom, religion, etc", it reads to me as a statement of mourning for what has been lost, opposed to that of gratitude for the liberties we have.

HER: Thank your family members for me for serving to protect the freedoms I enjoy.

________

Um. Well, you're welcome. I guess?

So true. Just another example of Pintrest Mormons Gone Wild. They don't get that others read it literally and not in some fictional context.

That is funny! I wish I could have a talk with that man. Just 5 minutes is all I ask.

Is Captain Moroni fashioned after George Washington?

To JoD3:360: It always bothered me that the BoM talks about liberty just like the founding fathers did. Thanks for the good link.

To Fidget: Oh my. Should this be my next facebook cover? I think so!

Reading further on down the page, in Alma 46:20

"Behold, whosoever will maintain this title upon the land, let them come forth in the strength of the Lord, and enter into a covenant that they will maintain their rights, and their religion, that the Lord God may bless them."

I guess that "title" belonging to the original inhabitants had somehow "lapsed".

Puffed up bastards!
